Self-sufficiency is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy. The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement. Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one's own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies. Where would one purchase a mangle these days?

Anyone know? This miserable, bastarding weather is playing havoc with my washing routine as most days it rains, making it nigh on impossible for me to dry.

I haven't the room or finances for an actual washer or dryer. I have sorted the washing part for now by investing in one of those ropey camper table-top deals, but I was hoping to break my dependancy on the launderette completely and have not been able to do so just yet because of this.

I've seen some old ones on auction sites, but they are mostly antiques and way to pricey.

Anyone know how to go about making one?

Any info appreciated.

Seen a few on ebay - some that are under £20 but they tend to be collection only which is an arse - though worth looking to see regularly incase one comes up for refurbishment am tempted to bid for this meself - and do it up.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

Fantastic bit of artwork and practicality but they play havoc with rippers and buttons unless you have the ones that come off for washing, I can still remember weekends at my dads auties who would get me to do the dolly tub rinse for my pockey money, those were really good days.

Oooh, that looks nice thoreau. Too big for my purposes though. I need one of those ones you can put over a bath or sink, really.

That'd be top-notch with a scrub and a lick of paint.
