Over the last couple of days I decided to take this cloud concept seriously and I did some tests. I wanted to find if I can watch my entertainment in different locations using wifi access. So I signed with the following providers, Netflix, Sky Go, Onlive, Lovefilm.
To do this exercise, I installed the appropriate apps on my samsung s2 android phone and I was quite amazed with the results, all services worked when I visited Mcdonalds, Burger King, Harvester and a few other places, but I found that using my 3g connection was not going all that well. All four worked flawlessly in those places and I can see why it can be of benefit for users.
I started watching torchwood on my xbox with netflix, then I went out and watched the rest while I was having a drink at Mcdonalds, I also accessed Onlive Gaming without any trouble and I was watching other people play games, I also played a game on the android phone, it was cool. I came back home and carried on where I left off. Sky Go was great and I was able to watch a programme out and about too.
Like I said the 3g mobile is the downside and you have to be careful with your allowance, but using wifi hotspots no problem.
People who I have spoken too, do not have a clue about this and as far as they were concerned, I was dabbling in witchcraft.
My friends have only just moved from crt to led tv and still using their vhs recorder, so I am not sure where people have this thought of an agenda.
