does anyone here get broadband from virgin media?

have you had problems with buffering video?
This is seemingly a problem with virgin media, lots of people reporting the same issue but VM is pretending it's nothing to do with them.
It obviously is, on the virgin tech support site there are dozens of threads, some run into over a hundred pages with hundreds of reports of the same issue.

so has anyone here run into the problem and most important how would you go about getting VM to fix it?

I have VM and have always had problems with BBC iplayer buffering and I'm on 100mb, I think the issue could just as well lay with the BBC, it would be a complex issue tbh.

Yeh sometimes mate, I think it's a combination of things, are over subscription, peak times on streaming services etc, by fits I shouldn't get any buffing on any service.

But then I connect to newsgroups at 12 mb per second so I know my line is good 99% of the time.

I really think it's something to do with VM rather than the hosting sites, there are hundreds of reports of exactly the same problem

but it's tricky, VM deny it's anything to do with them and my computer knowledge isn't good enough to prove otherwise.
might be time to shop around for a change

I'm with Virgin, and always have problems - though I'm not sure how much of that is the laptop.

it's very unlikely to be your laptop (unless you turned off the page file) it's a problem with virgin's hub software I think.

I'm not with Virgin, on a Greek 8MB connection (5 in reality) and watch BBCiPlayer through a UK proxy without buffering issues!

Well, I'm computer illiterate - and wish to remain so - but yes, buffering. I thought it was just the lappy, because there's a shock flashwave, or a flash shockwave or something not working. (Which I didn't want to admit, after people were kind enough recently to advise me on curing it, except that I haven't troubled myself to do anything about it ).

When we spoke to Virgin about the slowness generally (loading pages etc) they reckoned it was because their hub they'd supplied (or some such jargon that means nothing to me) was so super dooper that it was too good to communicate with the crappy old laptop.

But my husband bought a powerful new computer for his work the other week, and it's just as bad on that.

I'm on Virgin 30mb
No new hassles here to report.

Streaming has always been temperamental. but there's too many potential glitches along the way to pinpoint any one culprit.

I was with Virgin Media for years and they were great.....until there was a problem.

Then they were very very shit.

I've never changed ISP, they used to be a small indonesian mining and broadband company ( I know, weird combination) that got bought out by NTL.
NTL were ok, they had good customer support but then when they got bought out by VM everything went to shit.

I too have the pleasure of VM as my broadband provider.

Generally I find that they suck the sweat off a dead man's balls.

I've had loss of service issues and payment problems. Their phone monkeys are helpful but pretty clueless.

I'd switch but it will cost about £100 to reactivate the BT line for other providers to use

All I know is that my in-laws use Virgin and if you're not within 10 or 12 feet of that fucking modem/router then you ain't accessing shit, internet-wise. We, on the other hoof, use Sky and upstairs OR down I can get online in ANY room of the house. Obviously the signal is stronger downstairs (where the modem/router is) but that doesn't negate being able to get online anywhere else in the house.
