The BBC were discussing this coming to the UK today, well they're literally discussing it as I'm typing this. I will post the link once it becomes active on iPlayer.

It would be interesting to see if it could identify a lot of people at once. Unless you just ring the entire entrance with these cameras.
It also looks easily nickable/smashable so they won't last long if they are rolled out. :)

In the BBC item they were talking about these cameras being inserted within mannequins so that you don't even know that you're being filmed. They were also talking about recording conversations and having voice recognition technology installed as well. I'll post the link up later, the programme it was on is still going on for another hour.

The more details emerge, the uglier it gets imo.

I'm just thinking of people getting their invitations to sign up on Facebook to get specially reduced prices on trendy things. I don't think the prospect of losing privacy will even occur to a lot of them.

Blimey! Mind you, doing your shopping online isn't private either. It's all very intrusive, so is this all about marketing or do you think there's more to it?

I would say in this case it's primarily about marketing. I'm not personally overly concerned about things of this nature, unless it's a government programme, particularly a mandatory or broad-based government programme. But it does give some indication of what is possible.
