Because I always used to have them turned off on the DIF, and I'm bored of looking at them now, and no offence to the person involved but I don't have any desire to look at a picture of someone who's blown their own brains out seemingly.

I could get my Brittany Murphy one out again :chuckle:

Some avvies get on my tits and are just plain shit, but I think they, for the most part, brighten the place up a bit.

I don't particularly like the one you mentioned either wub.

I don't mind a bit of Brittany, bless her, I hope she's gone somewhere better.

I find turning the avatars off is a great leveler, as you have no preconceptions of the person based on their associated image.

Its the massive animated gif sigs on every post that get on me nerves tbh :)

Ability to turn it all off client side is useful I guess, specially if you're using a phone.

I hate to sound like I'm on commission for Ad Block but that would allow you to disable viewing an avatar/image/gif that's bugging you.

Alternatively you could just ask me to change my avatar. I did not intend to annoy you with it and will be happy to change it. For the record he has not blown his head off.

On a mobile is the tricky bit.

There is no provision for users to turn off avatar display with Kunena. ( For those who dont know, this forum is Kunena and is open source/free )

Perhaps it will be added to future upgrades, as features that people want, and are present on other non free forums, are often added as time goes on.

The only way for me to turn of avatars is across the board in administration...there is a provision for that, but then either everyone can see them, or nobody can. There would be no avatars on the forum if view avatars is set to no.

Well I've noticed some people using the spoiler option to hide the sigs which is a good idea, kudos to those who spotted that and made use of it :up2:

Well, it seemed a bit rude to make demands really. I know people have very different sensibilities to me, and like horror films and stuff like that, whereas I just find anything like that completely unappealing. I've missed out on my male gene somewhere on this one. But thanks for changing it, surely that nice Mr. Lennon is a better choice?

I'd still like to turn them off, though, so I might try ad block as suggested.

Sadly, that's the best offer I've had recently...

I don't want to start a trend, I just used to have them turned off on the DIF because people used to put daft stuff up and I found it preferable to have them off. I know most people find that it gives the site a bit more character.

I like avatars personally, and am not easily offended by an image.

Saying that, I also respect people's personal choice in the matter, and would prefer that kunena provided the same option to turn them off as vbulletein does.

i have an account on kunena.org so i can ask q's in regards to taking care of this site.

when im next on i will try remember to put this in the requested features section...there may be a thread about it there already.

the devs do tend to implement what a lot of people ask for, they do an excellent job especially considering we dont pay a penny for this forum, they are very pro open source there. ;)

Taken out of context the image might appear to be horror but it is actually a wonderful piece of drama. The man in my avatar was a character who was disfigured in the war and wears a mask to cover his face. He was about to kill himself but a dog runs off with his mask and he meets two guys in the woods and he decides against suicide. He is a great character on a great show. Boardwalk empire is the show by the way.

Well, seeing as we're on the subject of site improvements...

Would it be possible to put a 'preview' button in for posts?

there is no provision for that atm. what we have as you may or may not know is a preview 'pane' ...in the reply toolbox on the right hand side, just before the help icon on the end. You can select to view a preview underneath or on the side, those are the two icons in the toolbar.

the underneath one is probably best.

im not a programmer, that stuff is way beyond my capability and thats what it would take to make a preview button and full preview page similar to vbulletin.

Its not the best here but its all we have, i know its a little small. Though if you drag out the reply box a little larger with your mouse from the bottom right hand corner, the preview box gets a little larger also.

anything you enter in the reply box also appears in the preview window in real time if you select the icon beforehand.
