Hello tech guru types. :hi:

Long story short. Got computer, hard drive died, all music lost.

I have all my music on my ipod (not an ipod touch) and I have been told I can transfer from ipod to itunes.

Had a quick look on the web and there are apparently several ways of doing it. Problem is that when I read the comments left by folk they all say that the methods on offer don't work. :conf:

So, is it possible to do it?

In your own time, Andy. :D

I hate to jump in ahead of our esteemed IT expert...but when I had an iPod several generations ago, the iPod used to automatically sync with iTunes every time you plugged it into the docking station to recharge it. The whole point of iTunes is that it's supposed to be a digitalised version of the content that's contained on your iPod and vice versa. Or at least it was the last time I used one about seven years ago!

There's an old video here of iPod and iTunes syncing:

The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

I thought that all this synching business would overwrite the music on the ipod (shit loads) with what is on itunes (fuck all) and wipe the ipod clean.

If I try it and it does what I fear I will have to kill myself. :suicide:

This is quite possibly the case considering that iTunes has become a vast money making enterprise since I used it. There's some suggestion of how to do it here:

I hope you get a good result mate.

I have an eccentric chum who likes to surprise people. My surprise a while back was an uber gig ipod and a hard drive full of his entire music collection. Nearly 40k songs. :O
The ipod has the pick of his stuff and the rest - mainly thrash metal - is still on the portable hard drive.

So you have no sales receipts?
Tell it to the judge mate.

Well since I got a Windows 8 laptop, I can now buy songs, but they won't sync onto the Ipod at all. :(

I prefer the Ipod (when not plagued with this kind of problem) because I love every single track on it, having selected them all for that reason. When I bought CD's and before that albums, I'd usually like a few of the tracks, and never play the rest. :P :moon:

Hugo, this is why you should apparently put them in/on a cloud. So I've heard. Not that I can be bothered finding out what that means properly, or how to do it.
