Sorry you are feeling that way pheony.

It looks like the trouble has followed from the DI forum. :D

Is it a laughing matter then?

If anyone seriously suspects this then they should PM one of the moderators. We cant always do something about it when people cover their tracks, but we may be able to spot if it is the same user.

No, but, I don't want to come across as sounding brutal, so I put a lil emoticon to show I wasn't being too harsh.

Thanks for the responses to everyone.

I feel a little bit embarressed about making such a fuss but it seems like I am not the only one that thinks that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits of the Karma. Nobody is taking it seriously except the people back-smiting in an attempt to stir up strife.

There was a simiar thing at DIF with rating threads with 1 - 5 stars: usually meaning that the usual suspects' threads got 5 stars and any threads that spoke against fascism got one starred anonymously. That would suggest that like minded folks are doing something similar with the karam system. Moreover, the karma system was used by the mentally unstable Tiswas herself to try and start a fight through fake indignation and playing victim. No doubt when that mentalist gets her sock on, she will be out to create havock as by now she will have convinced herself that her faux outrage was indeed real injustice.

I vote ditch it. Keep the thank you as it saves time and forum space. Facilitating positive feedback is a good thing as it often harder to express in words. No need for a "fuck you" equivilent cos: if somebody wants to challenge a post they should explain clearly as to why, or at least identify themselves with a user name. It's not like the forum world is not anonymous enough already.

I am very sorry you feel that way and I think you may be doing the SZ a disservice. I feel very confident that if you were to spend any time at DIF again you would not be sure about that.

I kinda knew that once we had silenced all talk about DIF in an attempt to "move on" and "put it behind us" we would begin to forget just how shitty awful DIF really is and why we should be grateful to DG, Novum, psketti, frog and all the other folks who made this place happen.

If there is anything I can do Pheony, just let me know

It's wrong to smite someone out of vindictiveness or retaliation for personal reasons,if a system of karma was in place that showed who liked or approved of you,or who didn't like or approve of you for some reason, thing's would be above board, and the person smiting another could be confronted about the reason for their deed.
In my opinion

Or just drop it, but this is the way of thing's and people are people and can be underhanded at times, and feel a karma will hurt a rival.

Guys we are talking about it in admin, looks like we will have a vote. We just havent decided if it will be a poll sent out by email, or a poll in a thread we will make here in community chest.

I guess at the end of the day, members can leave a thankyou for posts they appreciate, and everyone can see which posts are popular, and indeed which posters. If we click on the statistics link at the bottom rh corner of the forum, we can see the top 100 thanked members.

Karma is a bitch. :hahano:

I find it just funny to use that fake indicator of coolness and scene points. It's completely useless feature actually and I don't know if it's funny much any more.

Aye, Mikey, I've always given you + karma by the way. ;)

The karma system is a useless feature. I took it seriously at first :emb: but now I see it for what it is...a load of pointless bollocks :D
In fact I'd like my points set back to 0...so if one of you tremendous green peeps have got a bit of time on your hands and are bored shitless...then go for it :chuckle: Just for fun and that :D

I can't wait for the vote :D I think it should just be a thread poll maybe, there's only a certain few of us who sign in anyway...don't know...would people be arsed even signing in to vote? It's up to you's anyway :)

Oh you don't have to sign in to vote if it's an email poll do you? I don't know how it works :emb:

The newly formed KTKBBTACTMEP (Keep The Karma Buttons Because They Are Crucial To My Evil Plans) Front notes with no small amount of displeasure this blatant attempt to disarm it's affiliated groups.

Let it be hereby noted that the KTKBBTACTMEPF will not let this go unchallenged or unpunished :secret:

Glad you're feeling a bit better about it, Mikey. I agree, it is daft.

Personally, I tell people exactly what I think of them rather than going doing the 'smite' route, but each to their own, I s'pose?

Well 'Thank you' is sometimes just a thank you - like when someone goes & finds a link for you for eg., or presents an argument very eloquently, or makes you laugh (even if you don't agree with their conclusions).

This.

I'd have usually just hit the 'Thank You' button but now realise this could be misconstrued by some people. :P

And as the only person to express any desire to keep it is dubs I say get rid :D

I'd given up trying to get nirvana down to -88 anyway.

The KTKBBTACTMEPF is hereby disbanded and its sole member withdraws all objection to the removal of the karma buttons. any temporal relation to some bastard smiting me back to 88 is of course entirely coincidental.
