I don't know about anyone else but the site seems to be becoming quite buggy atm.

Slow page loads
A noticeable hang time between opening the reply dialogue box and actually being able to begin typing.
(Ghostery indicates that 'Facebook Connect' may be loading or connecting at this time).

I have had a few "Script errors" in the past few days as well.
A week or so back there were mysql errors being reported and I wonder if the site's database may have become glitched.

Frustratingly these faults are intermittent, so near impossible to recreate or predict.
I'm not having these issues elsewhere atm.

I'm using Windows Vista (yeah, yeah) :P
Firefox 17.0 (With Ad-Blockplus & Ghostery)
and loads of coffee atm.

Just thought I'd mention it because sometimes it leans towards "c'mon tae fuck!" load times.

 There is your problem right there... anything over, I think it's 3.5 (I'll check in a minute) and you start fucking bogging out. They have a shovewave/flash plugin running, eats up memory like you have unlimited, slows it down.

Not saying that's what is causing all the problems, but if you're running more than one tab/window (sometimes even just one) it's going to eat up the memory.

Edit: Yeah, it's 3.5 you want, right before they started adding plug-ins to the plug-ins to the software they had running in the background. Try backing up your information (bookmarks, passwords, etc...) Remove the version you got, re-install the older version, disable updating. Then see if it speeds up.

The SQL error's I got a while ago, after I backdated my flash/shockwave it stopped, so did the issues with chat. Stay off facebook, they have like 50 things running in the background on top of all the crap you can see.

Hiya starz :rose:

I'm running 3gb of memory on this machine and as I said earlier "I'm not having these issues elsewhere atm."
I didn't have them here either until quite recently.
If it were simply Firefox hogging resources I'd expect to see performance drops across the web.

I'm not attempting to connect to Facebook btw, Ghostery shows that SZ is running a feature called "Facebook Connect"

Sorry :emb: , I have no excuse for assuming it was all over when you said it's just here, other than a yapping kid and dog that makes it hard to concentrate.

That facebook connect might be caused by line 4 or 3193 of the source code... would have to talk to Nov or Frog about that, maybe even DG can tell whats going on. I think it's something that has to be added in by the designer, unless the host here is just fucking adding shit at random now. From what I can find online, its a social plugin, it's used for adding a "like" button or something like that. Never worked with it so can't say for sure.

Is that a new thing on there that wasn't there before?
You can try blocking it through AdBlock with lifehacker.com/5542041/block-sites-from-...in-with-adblock-plus

I've had all of these too apart from the facebook one... though maybe I have but just didn't notice it. I'll make sure nov see's this thread as frogs not around.

Anyone else with any issues such as these, list them in here please.

Its not new, and yeah you are correct, is part of the template.

However fb login is turned off in our joomla at the moment...it hasnt ever been on afaik...and i just turned the like button feature off (that is for the article comments) ...but yes that line 4 still loads, its in the php file/source and loads automatically, so that when fb connect or the like button is enabled it all works.

I cant remove that line afaik because we havent payed for the template, (its the free version) so i cant access the php file. :hahano:

this is what the file says... "*/// No direct access. defined('_JEXEC') or die; "

That said, there is an update for the template which has been released, and fb has updated what is on line 4, the url....but im not sure that should be an issue. Upgrades do tend to have fixes for issues though, there may be something else out of date/playing up.

I dont think Frog has updated to the latest template but im not sure, have to get in touch with him...in the backend it should tell me which template version is up, but the version number there doesnt match the latest version available...or any version :conf: i just had a look.

I dont really want to try and upgrade the template now, as i havent got the time if something goes wrong...either does Frog right now unfortunately, he is very busy.

Im doing ok here with chrome as the browser :hide: everything seems to be working well.

Perhaps feather you can try what stars said and block it, see if that changes anything....the fb extension may not be the issue.

I just want to add...

the forum is also an older version now, there has been an upgrade. (truth zone for example is the latest version of kunena)

that is a seperate upgrade to the template...its two different things, but of course they work together to create the forum....the forum operates within the template.

Both have updated versions but as i said im not game to try update either now, as i havent the time to fix right now if something goes wrong (and it can when upgrading)...and same goes for Frog atm.

An upgrade would also change the appearance of the forum quite dramatically as it writes over all the css files (the attribute names have been changed so cant use the current files)...and then it takes quite a few hours of work for me to make it look how it does now again...just havent the time now.

Template isnt the latest version ftr, i figured it out.

TZ is , as it was created much later, recently, of course...so i was able to compare.

Hopefully we will get around to upgrading both the template and the kunena forum soon.

Yep well i did turn off the fb like button enable for ya (and hence for everyone) right before i posted in this thread....so that may explain that change.

Though stars is right about line 4 of the source code, its still loading a fb line, i cant get rid of that line to see what happens...but clearly turning off the like button enable in joomla seems to have made it vanish for ghostery hey.

Again im not sure if that will improve things for you, hope it does.

EDIT: I havent got ghostery but my chrome browser shows all cookies, and before i turned the like button off, there was a fb cookie and now there seems to not be.

How do I fix it so that when I open up a thread I automatically go to where I left off?

Also when I login, sometimes I have had to enter my name and password several times. I don't really care, just saying.

1st bit I can't help you with, you can find your own last post in a thread by looking through your own posts so in the worst case you could make a post to act as a 'marker'.

2nd bit, I too have this from time to time, I put it down to having never clicked Accept for that EU cookie thing...but that's based on a hunch rather than tech know how.

Thanks, Good to know. I wasn't sure if the forum had that feature and thought it was silly not to take advantage of it if it was available.

No biggie. :)
