It seems that some members who at least had a degree of interaction despite whatever other forum members thought of them have been banned/penalised for persistent trolling while (an)other has been getting away with it continuously.
I don't really see how this can be fair.

I'm not sure that making irrelevant posts is the same as trolling.

I'd say they should be syphoned off to a dedicated thread if they're disrupting a serious discussion. That's not necessarily as straight forward to moderate fairly as it could be, given the number of threads we all derail as the norm.

Lightgiver's posts are a nuisance to have to continually scroll past to read other members posts. The content of the posts are copied and pasted irrelevancies that I have yet to see add anything worthwhile to the thread topic.

If not a troll, then definitely a :spam: er.

I am going to add my voice to this one. He/she is a complete pain in the arse. Quite some time ago there was a thread that I started about welsh rugby I think it was and on came LG. I made a complaint about it as he was just posting irrelevant things on the thread, completely de-railed it. Because I had a pop at him directly on the forums, he then started following each of my posts and posting just enough of a relevance to my post. He/she basically stalked me. So that's when I went quiet on here because I was told just to ignore him.....bollocks to that I thought.

I like Gilly's idea of sticking his posts in one thread...but quite frankly, with my experience, he's smart enough to make posts that do have some relevance to what the previous poster said...hence the reason it has nothing to do with the thread, but more so with the previous post. Then of course, as he did on one of these threads the other day, there was a page and a half of postings on a perfectly fine thread...I gave up.

:jane:
Jane

PS...I would just like to add that after I posted the above I went back to the forum page and noticed that out of the 25 forum sections LG is the last poster on 11 of them.....sorry, but my view is when some one feels they have to post on almost half of the forum with pasted irrelevancies ..........................

Personally I have a soft spot for owt different and LG's posting style is certainly that. I don't have a problem with him posting tenuously linked matter but some of it does not appear to everyone but LG to have any relevance. The habit he seems to be developing lately is to post a relevant response then add half a dozen irrelevant posts immediately after it. Disappearing from the forum for an hour, coming back to find a new thread has already reached 2 pages and clicking it to see what has cuased such intense intrigue tends to mean a dozen posts of LG's have 'beefed it up'.

I have suggested in staff quarters (FF discussion) that we have an LG thread to post irrelevant stuff in, this gives us FF's the problem of trying to interpret if his posts are relevant or not, conversely it gives LG the 'problem' of having to make his posts more blatantly relevant. I can see that leading to disagreements but being less of a problem for the community as a whole.

All opinions expressed above are my own personal ones and do not reflect any mercenary steps I am willing to take on behalf of the community
:D

Another voice for an LG thread.
We've all raised our concerns/objections with him/her regarding irrelevance to no avail.
There's no interaction other than abuse and more wiki / youtube gibberish.

I recommend their posts be moved on sight and let LG make the argument for their reinstatement to their original location on grounds of relevance.

Ohh and before the "that's unfair, everyone can derail a thread occasionally" bleat is given voice.
Indeed we can, but it's not the entirety of our contribution.

ohh and btw, the forum already has a word association thread if (as it appears to be) that's all that is required to meet their needs.

That requires an association of some sort though, not something always forthcoming in his posts!

I'd rather he didn't leave but what else to do if he won't take into consideration what people are telling him?

That's what I'm hanging fire for too.

If he has a better suggestion than a) staying (loosely) on topic or b) having his own as off topic as he wants thread than I'm all ears.

Maybe we could all chip in for a Thai bride for him. There must be something else better for him to do.

Lol well we have asked lg for some decent genuine thoughts of his own, nothing's been forthcoming.
Any of the rest of us make genuine posts like this, I don't see why it would be difficult.
Easier if anything as he must spend ages sorting out pics and text colour etc which I rarely bother with
