I'm not sure that making irrelevant posts is the same as trolling.

I'd say they should be syphoned off to a dedicated thread if they're disrupting a serious discussion. That's not necessarily as straight forward to moderate fairly as it could be, given the number of threads we all derail as the norm.
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[6]
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29

I'm not normally so arsed by the content of people's posts and especially because it's quite an easy going forum, but posting a load of irrelevant c+p waffle and links to films & songs on a thread about a missing and probably dead child is the work of a total cunt.
& with all the unrelated youtube videos & crap it takes the page miles longer to load.
Yes, we all drift off topic sometimes but that's because we're having an actual conversation which theoretically could lead anywhere. What he's doing is posting stuff that couldn't even be described as tenuous & it inevitably destroys threads. It's not even an opinion it's just a load of copied wank with no explanation as to how it could possibly be relevant.
My main point is that there's been several people banned from here for being annoying one way or another but at least they had a degree of interaction, and they could to some degree attempt to explain their position. It's also obvious that he's been abusive to forum members when asked either to stop or asked wtf he's posting a load of nonsense for, & it seems inconsistent given that other people have been banned/penalised for doing similar or less.
I think it's also unfair to ask the mods to deal with the persistence & volume of it day in day out, because it's enormous. Imagine if loads of other people came onto the forum doing exactly the same thing because they thought they could get away with it or that the forum will tolerate it. The forum would simply become defunct & pointless, subverting any useful information that gets posted.... which I suspect is his aim.

I've yet to be on the receiving end of any abuse from 'LG', though I am aware it has occured. IMO, that is quite a different matter than just posting random bits and pieces and should be dealt with as we would deal with any such misconduct.

As for vids and different colours...to be perfectly frank, I don't bother reading them any more and just scroll down. Trying to make the associations - which I don't doubt LG has given some thought to - just hurt my noggin too much. We could all quite easily do the same.

Having said that, vid intensive threads are a hassle to read on anything other than a home computer. Perhaps if/when LG does respond here, we can discuss it and come to some agreement re the volume of vids that are being linked?

Otherwise, it is supposed to be an open forum and posting things that annoy people isn't a breach of the rules as far as I'm aware. Let us not forget, one man's trolling is another man's meaningful and inciteful postings (you only need take a cursory glance at my own post history to realise this). HOWEVER, there are clear guidelines set out here and if they are being broken then appropriate action should (and I'm sure will be) taken.

If it doesn't cause too much aggro, it would be useful for members like myself, who really don't pay much attention to anything that doesn't have anything to do with themselves, to cite some examples of where a breach of guidelines has occured? If not here, then to one of our top banana mods? It can then perhaps be discussed in the locked mod thread for all to see.

Ta xx

EDIT: This is also why a 'block' facility as employed by some lesser forums would be jolly useful. About the only good use it would have, in fact.

Can't argue with that. :dunno:

I do maintain though that 'relevance' is a very subjective thing. This would be a case of mods discretion as per previous, logged on locked mod thread, unless anyone particularly objects?

I think it only sporting we give the accused time to respond anorl.

He's been asked about relevance several times........... getting blood out of a stone springs to mind.
Chance of him having any input whatsoever in terms of a lucid response probably has the same chance.
