The body of missing Stone Roses fan Chris Brahney has been found in Salford Quays. Friends and relatives had been searching for Chris, 22, from Timperley, since he disappeared after attending the band's Heaton Park concert on Friday June 29th, but his body was discovered near MediaCity this morning. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police can confirm that the body found in a canal in Salford this morning is that of missing 22-year-old Christopher Brahney." A post mortem examination will take place tomorrow. Dad Stuart thanked volunteers who search for Chris and thanked the MEN for supporting the hunt for his son. He said: "I just want to thank everyone who helped us search for Chris. The response was overwhelming. "Unfortunately the outcome wasn't the news we had been hoping for but I'd like to express my thanks to everyone and the MEN for their support." Chris was last seen by friends returning to Heaton Park after the Stone Roses gig to find his mobile phone at around 11.30pm last Friday. Police said there have been possible sightings of Chris later at a park-and-ride site set up for the concert in Bowlee, Middleton. He is thought to have been seen getting off a bus at the site and also spoke to a group of young women – telling them he had lost his phone and his friends. A further possible sighting of Chris has been reported at Maccabi Sport Centre on Bury Old Road at about 12.05am. It was thought he may have been trying to head back to Heaton Park after leaving the park-and-ride centre. Police have also revealed Chris’s phone is possibly in Edinburgh. Officers had been monitoring its SIM card which, on Thursday night, gave out a signal for the first time since his disappearance. The investigation will now focus on how Chris made his way to Salford Quays. Media City is over five miles from Heaton Park and Chris's home in Timperley is a further eight miles away to the south.
