The private firm at the centre of the Olympics security shambles is looking to hire former police officers as civilian investigators to work on sensitive, high-profile cases.

G4S Policing Solutions, part of G4S, is advertising for “civilian investigators” who will be “assisting detectives by carrying out vital tasks such as taking statements and retrieving CCTV footage”.

The move emerged just a day after the Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told The Independent that G4S's failure to supply enough guards to keep the Olympics secure had led him to rethink the limit of private sector involvement in providing public services.

“I came into the MoD (Ministry of Defence) with a prejudice that we have to look at the way the private sector does things to know how we should do things in Government,” he said

“But the story of G4S and the military rescue is quite informative.”

This is something I've discussed at UKplodOnline.

What I've learnt there is that the more old school plod are rather concerned that there are now people joining the "service" with pretty much the sole intent of racking up the 2-3 years that they need to be able to then apply to G4S as an experienced plod........

The packages being offered by G4S are pretty good whilst the plod are seeing their terms and conditions changed for the worse.
I get the feeling that there is now very little new blood that is joining the "service" with the intent of being a career plod. Perhaps we might accept that in the old days, people might have considered that a career in the plod was a way of earning a living whilst helping society. Very far from the motivation of the new breed.

As yet I've seen no acceptance from the plod of the looming possibility of the private sector taking on more than what they call back room roles. In fact it seems they moan a fair bit but haven't got anywhere near understanding the bigger picture....

Well the management of the Force is riddled with common purpose graduates so the mindset of the system will be getting changed from within their ranks. Government are also singing from the very same hymn sheet so they are being facilitated to meet the objectives of privatisation via the backdoor.

The regular cops aren't trained with the same principles or values that they once were the program is far more militaristic in nature.

Unfortunately they don't seem to be able to see where things are heading, and too many of them fail to see that they and their families are members of the community and they will be subjected to the same BS as the rest of us - if we don't take steps to reverse these trends. Until they are willing to look objectively at the situations and events unfolding around them there is little chance of them becoming informed or aware of the real agenda. I think there are a few who are realising something is a foot, but I doubt that they would be making their feelings known among their colleagues due to the risk of marginalisation. Many of the ones who are aware will be officers with long service, who have witnessed the change and they will be holding out for their pensions. It will be interesting to see what happens when the pension systems fails, and the expolice are being policed by a private force which will be little more than gangs of paid goons.

Now you no I don't tend to have a brilliant relationship with forum mods ;) but I'll say this. At UkplodOnline I get the distinct impression that there are three moderators there that very much give me the impression that they are all for me posting as I do. What I mean is that I agree that there seems to be at least a small section of plod that whilst they may possibly not know the full extent and may possibly not choose to air their own views amongst their peers, do see that this shizzle needs to be discussed and resisted.

There in lies the problem human nature is fairly predictable especially in situations that rely heavily on group dynamics. Part of the common purpose programming is designed to prevent decent through the exploitation of group dynamics. The object is to marginalise any voices who represent a challenge to the effects of change by ridicule, marginalisation and other common bullying techniques. The longer term effect is that people who have concerns don't even make it out of the starting blocks - preferring to maintain the status quo among the group they are apart of. This form of mind control is the barrier that needs to be broken down in order to allow people to take action against the negative changes in policies being imposed. The big problem is that people need to recognise that they are in fact being controlled before they can defend themselves against the effects.

Over there at UKplodOnline they certainly do give off the stench of disempowerment.
I do take some of their points with regards to what action they can take. The nature of their work means that like nurse, the fire service etc, there is only so far they can go with industrial action. I've tried to encourage them to work on alternatives but here we run into what you describe in that post^^
There seems to be an element who are very vocal and who will ridicule anyone who seeks to question such things. I've no doubt that those vocal and ignorant types are indeed part of the 'plan'. They are quite effective. It's ok for civilian keyboard warriors such as myself to go toe to toe with them but I've seen little sign of any plod stepping up to do it. The best I've seen is the subtle encouragement I've had to keep posting. (I've even had several PMs from those mods outlining how I can stay within the rules whilst airing my views ;) )
