According to the article, the local government did agree that the burial would cause no "drainage issues" initially. I think in this case, they were just hoping people wouldn't look into it too much and realise that there actually are alternatives to using registered sites.

You can scatter someone's cremated ashes pretty much anywhere you like....could that be classed as 'burial'?

Certainly, I'd rather be under my apple tree than on consecrated ground. I don't go to church, & didn't get married in one - it would be nonsensical to have a church funeral (quite apart from the exorbitant fees involved).

I dunno how my family would feel about that, or what the implications are if they wanted to sell the property though.

Yep...the implications of selling your property (or of someone else owning it in the future after you have perhaps been buried on it yourself) could be problematic. You wouldn't want the future owners to have the right to dig you/your family up in order to put a swimming pool in would you?

I guess the actual plot/s would have to be declared legally sacrosanct or something.

I don't see what the problem is other than the state and government not getting money, or the burial systems or whatever is used. Can't be any worse than people dumping oil and gas on the ground not 100ft from a well and underwater reservoir. I think he should be allowed, like anyone else, to buried their loved ones wherever the fuck they want (be that the front yard, back yard, under the porch, hell if they wanna keep them in the freezer it should be their choice...especially if it was decided upon before the loved one moved on to the next life).

I'm interested to see what kind of problems arise when I grow old and die. I want to be buried to our summer cottages backyard or far north in Lapland to a very special place... I'd love to see my relatives to be to fight over it.

But I think it's fucken stupid, I think people should be free to bury their loved ones where ever the dead have wanted it to happen. It's easy for lawmakes that christianity has made burials and the places for it so easy to define. And most people are ok with it. I'm not.
