The fact that Siemens have admitted using slave labour in the second world war makes it hard for me to understand why Siemens is supplying more than 30 percent of Israel's electricity.

Siemens retreats over Nazi name

German engineering giant Siemens has hastily abandoned plans to register the trademark "Zyklon", the same name as the Zyklon B poison gas used in Nazi extermination camps, BBC News Online has learnt.

A year ago, Bosch Siemens Hausgeraete (BSH), the firm's consumer products joint venture, filed two applications with the US Patent & Trademark Office for the Zyklon name across a range of home products, including gas ovens.

Jewish groups have condemned the move, in particular because Siemens used slave labour during the Nazi period.

Like many other large German firms, Siemens is now involved in plans to compensate victims of the Nazi regime.

A few questions.

1.Jewish groups were rightly offended by the name chosen by Siemens regarding the zyklon range of products but are not offended by Siemens producing electricity for people in Israel,why not?

2.Were the slaves used by Siemens mainly Jewish faith people or mainly non Jewish faith people?

3.If the slaves used by Siemens were mainly Jewish faith people why the inconsistent behavior towards the company Siemens?

Don't say It's just about money,that's so sad if it is.

I haven't looked into this but yes you're right to question. Siemens was a massive part of the Nazi war machine, involved in the flight capital program and very is much part of the 'fourth Reich'. The reasons why they may wish to be so active in Israel are very much easier to comprehend than why they are so welcome. Zyklon?
Ultimately I'd speculate that this is just another expression of global corporo-fascism with no small amount of ner ner thrown in

I really do find it strange though regarding Siemens being in Israel and to be honest i find it offensive that money means more than past events but i am naive when it comes to business dealings.

thanks for you response mr dub,i am coming to the conclusion that some business men/women will do anything and work with any company for personal gain and to stop any type of socialist or political system which is not elitist.

This is not exclusive to Israel as the backers of fascism have continued throughout Europe and USA.

corporations and the real power behind them dont care for borders...the common citizens dont have much of a say on these issues...and as always, politicians are there to serve the corporations not the people.

How the hell could anyone think that would be a good idea? I mean there is no way this could of been done accidentally, so we must assume there was a purposeful intent behind it. Was it to rehabilitate the brand? Maybe there is a niche market of neo-nazis who like kitchen cookware. Was it a sick in office joke that got out of hand? Maybe by taking the job of running Israels electricity they believe they are striking a blow for neo nazis everywhere by charging them slightly too much for their leccy?
Anyway, whichever it is, its sick. I hope their share price dropped significantly. Seems to be the only thing these Corps care about.
