Traffic on the Capital Beltway around Washington was slow on Friday, but the culprits were largely steady rain and a heavy volume of weekday commuters, not a purported 3-day rolling protest by independent truckers.
Video cams occasionally showed three trucks rolling side by side, clogging up cars and other trucks behind them, but the Beltway otherwise keep truckin'.
At one point, according to the Virginia State Police, four commercial vehicles slowed traffic to 15 mph after the drivers rode side-by-side across all four northbound lanes of I-495 in Virginia. Police pulled the drivers over and warned them not to impede traffic.
"No summons/ticket was issued," police said in a statement. "The tractor-trailers were then allowed to proceed on their way," officials said in a news release, WUSA-TV reports.

Although organizers of the "Ride for the Constitution" said thousands -- perhaps as many as 10,000 -- trucks would take part, at mid-morning, only about 30 or so tractor-trailers were spotted on the Inner Loop of the Beltway that circles Washington through Maryland and Virginia, according to Corinne N. Geller, spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Many of the trucks bore the official Twitter hashtag of the ride -- #T2SDA -- which stands for "Truckers to Shut Down America."
"They're traveling with the flow of traffic, which is slow due to the heavy volume and weather conditions," she said in a statement. "Still no incidents to report."
The protest -- aimed at seeking to impeach President Obama and pressure Congress -- was beset by conflicting messages and tactics.
Organizers said sympathetic demonstrations by veterans and Tea Party supporters were also planned in various state capitals and on highway overpasses.
Drivers had planned to occupy three lanes of Interstate 495, driving 55 mph, with the fourth lane kept clear for emergency vehicles and supporters. Only motorists displaying the group's Twitter hashtag on their vehicles were going to be allowed to pass, organizers said, adding that the protest would be peaceful and lawful.
Trucker Earl Lee, a coordinator, told Fox News on Thursday that 10,000 truckers were headed to Washington. He said three, eight-hour driving shifts were planned, with a possibility that the protest would continue Monday, the Columbus Day holiday.
Lee cautioned drivers to obey all traffic laws.
"You got to stay legal; we don't want any illegal activity," he said, adding that "none of you guys want tickets or points on your CDL (commercial driver's license) either.
"We don't want any incidents, and no accidents," Lee said. "We want no negative coverage whatsoever."

The "Million Vet March" in Washington D.C. appears to be escalating as reports of barricades being torn down, police in riot gear and snipers being deployed, and a growing crowd at The White House chanting for its shut-down suggest the people are growing restless.
Protesters have gathered in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, according to reports.
Park police in riot gear were deployed in front of the building.
“US Park Police have arrived in front of WH. Some in riot gear! Tea party/veteran protesters start booing,” wrote CNN’s Jim Acosta on Twitter.
A rally took place at the World War II memorial and headed to the White House, reported NBC Washington. Several thousand demonstrators came out, it said.
NBC reported that people were carrying barricades that were likely from the WWII memorial to the White House area.
The DC Police Department said its officers are on the scene.
“MPD is on the scene at White House with USSS & USPP concerning protest – marchers using sidewalk,” it wrote on Twitter.
Commentator Sarah Palin and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) were on the scene and spoke to demonstrators.
The organizers of the protest described themselves as the “Million Vet March.”
It said that veterans and military members are “being used a political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis,” its website reads.
Jeff Tompkins, a protester, told NBC that “it should be open to everyone to come down here and see this … this is not just and not fair,” referring to the WWII memorial. Snipers at the ready atop the White House as the crowds gather...

Almost three months ago, the Saturday night host of Coast to Coast AM, John B. Wells and I were co-guests on the same show in which he expressed the view that Putin and Obama were playing for the same team and that the apparent Russian/American conflict over Syria and Iran was merely an exercise in theater. I had actually thought Putin was standing up to America’s imperialism and stood in opposition to Obama’s incremental plan to insert America into Syria and then Iran. However, there was something about Mr. Wells’ statements that resonated with me.
One week ago, while appearing on my show, The Common Sense Show, John B. Wells repeated the same belief in which he reiterated that Putin and Obama work for the same masters. As I write these words, I must confess that I discovered and subsequently concluded that Mr. Wells is absolutely correct in one very important regard. Both Russia and the United States have begun to steal all retirement accounts from their citizens in preparation for an economic collapse.
The only plausible explanation on why Putin and Obama would be pursuing the same strategy, with regard to absconding with their nation’s retirement funds, is because both leaders are actively pursuing the same strategy as I write these words.
Grand Larceny, Russian Style
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told his finance ministers that the Russian government is “temporarily” seizing $7.6 billion in savings from non-state pension funds while it carries out inspections to insure that the money Russians channel to private pension funds, is safe. To do this, it will seize 244 billion rubles (i.e. $7.6 billion) from private, non-governmental pension funds and forcibly, but only “temporarily” place them into the Russian government state pension fund.
Russian authorities claim that they will only hold the retirement money for one year while they check to see that banking institutions are sound. Please remember the one year figure, this will prove significant later in this article.
The Russian government explanation of why they need to seize retirement funds does not even constitute a good cover story. Many analysts state that the “temporary” borrowing of Russian pension funds by the government looks more like a case of government “confiscation” of these private funds in anticipation of a coming crash.
Former Russian finance minister, Alexei Kudrin, recently stated that if the government is not intent on spending these retirement funds, then why are they booking the money?
Government-controlled companies have expressed a negative reaction to the “borrowing” of Russian retirement funds. Most experts agree that the Russian government is making Russia a very unattractive place to invest given this new development. This apparent reckless action by the Russian government makes no sense unless the Russians, like the American bankers, are attempting to acquire as many hard assets as possible.

The former head of the Goldman Sachs crime syndicate and former Treasury Secretary, Hank Paulson, told a closed session of Congress that if they did not grant Wall Street “bailouts” there would be martial law in the streets as a result of the economy collapsing. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is a proven lying, incompetent crook. When he does something with anyone’s money, we would all be well-advised to pay attention.
The Treasury Department is taking federal retirement programs. The very close friends of Goldman Sachs, over at Citigroup, have their henchman in charge of the continuing rape of America by Wall Street, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. Let me be clear, and Lew you can sue me if this not true, that it is a fact that Obama appointed one of the criminals who had a major hand in bringing down the economy to run the country’s finances.

@WuB....your post reminded me very much about an article I was reading just before the week end about some trade agreement that is going through between America, and I can't remember all the other countries involved. At the time alarm bells went off because it stank of this is what all this is really about. It's a complete lockdown on who can trade with who and the 'coinage' involved.
I've had a quick look at my usual sources, and can't find it. I'll go have another look. I remember it has one of those capital letter things like BRICS....but it's not that.
