You have the wrong guy if you think I'm about to be any kind of apologist for the arcane Catholic Church.
I referred to the comments of one man, who happens to be the recently elected Papa Capo.

Time will tell on the sincerity of those comments and how widely accepted they may be adopted within the church.
Was he allowed to say them or did he have to get his pimp hand bruised hushing opposition? I have no fucking clue.

His hat shape and actions of his predecessors or of no relevance to his comments imo.
If there is evidence of continued thievery or child raping please furnish it asap to the appropriate authorities because that stuff is vile and needs stamped on.
Failing to do that makes you an enabler and accomplice in my eyes (and probably in the eyes of the law too).

No-one expects this head of a hugely conservative organisation, with it's own massive banking interests to make these condemnatory statements. Yet he did.

Is it a populist PR exercise? Perhaps
or is it a realisation that the Church had lost it's way completely and needs to redress that.
Again I have no idea.

However I am prepared to cut some slack and watch how things go, and how far.
I'm a complete non-believer in the deity aspects of the man's purpose and motivations but I am always open to a path of caring, sharing and compassion for each other.

He could do better lets face it, thats what people are pissed at, not so much what he's said thus far as what he's NOT said.

Everything's not black & white. You can surely appreciate someone in his position trying to spread peaceful, compassionate messages, even if you don't share their religion?

There've been plenty of Pope's who have been all for condemning minority groups. How can it be a bad thing for one to come along who takes a different stance?

I agree... but can we take him at face value?
I'm pretty sure he was involved in the Exocet missile & other weapons deals for the Argentinian junta shortly before the Falklands war, and was also tied up in the weird case of Roberto Calvi.
IF he was involved in that I refuse to take anything he says along these lines seriously. Repenting sins doesn't cut le mustard with that.

You did read the bit where I made clear "You have the wrong guy if you think I'm about to be any kind of apologist for the arcane Catholic Church. "right?
and you caught this > "We may be a long way from the Vatican bling garage sale" from my OP
and this line "I'm a complete non-believer in the deity aspects"?
so what is it you're trying to say BC?

Like it or not, this guy is VERY influential on this litttle planet so what he says MAY have an effect on some things.
Would you rather he got up on the podium and proclaimed "greed is good and fuck the little guy up the ass like a choirboy"?
Is that what you're after?

I realise that what he's saying is hard to argue with and that given he's only been there a short while, then he should at least be given a chance to prove himself.... but for me, I just ain't buying it.

Nothing that high up the chain hasn't been predetermind and this is the Vatican we're speaking about here. I just don't believe it.
The Catholic church has taken quite a beating in the last few years and now along comes this... a saviour almost, shouting off all the things average joe wants to hear... nuh uh, no way.
The church and money are glued at the hip and that's not going to change.

If I'm wrong... great.... but not for him as I expect he may suffer a heart attack or somesuch in the not to distant future.

But I refuse to believe that the cunts at the top of the food chain don't know exactly what they're doing in regards to this situation. Everything for a reason.

I'm not naive, many things could be going on here but I'd rather someone in his position was saying what he's saying rather than openly stomping on the poor and lawding the rich in the way Boris fucking-facist-in-a-clown-suit* Johnson, (*My daughters description of him, I'm proud to say), is currently doing.

We can't have it both ways, kick up fuck that change needs to happen then reject it offhand when it just might be.

The last Pope to go this route lasted 33 days before suddenly curling his toes, iirc. (John Paul I),
Am I correct Mikey?

That's so apt.

The other points you make, I also agree with.

It ill be no huge shocker to learn at some future point that he's another puppet, but even if that's the case, at least the tolerance he's preaching is serving a good purpose for now.

I may be surprised at some of the things the Pope is saying atm but I'm not holding my breath waiting for him to proclaim "Religion is the opiate of the people!" :nea:

Pope Puts On Costume, Sneaks Out of Vatican at Night to Help the Poor

Ku Xlarge

"Wait till you get a load of me!"
*May not be actual article photo

He's been referred to as "Super-Pope" for his superheroic feats of faith, but is Pope Francis an honest-to-Godness superhero?

He's already gone above and beyond the call of duty by tossing out expired dogma, rejecting capitalism, and even reaching out to ungodly atheists, but the latest good deed attributed to His Holiness may be his most miraculous to date.

Last month, an interview with the Pope's Almoner-in-Chief Konrad Krajewski gave rise to rumors that Francis has been donning a costume of sorts and sneaking out of the Vatican at night to help the homeless.

Now The Huffington Post is reporting that a "knowledgeable source" is confirming the report that Swiss guards have personally witnessed the Pope leave the Vatican after nightfall "dressed as a regular priest" in order "to meet with homeless men and women."

Krajewski, who is tasked with handing out Holy See money to the poor and indigent, suggested Francis was joining him on nighttime sojourns into Rome.

"When I say to him ‘I’m going out into the city this evening’, there’s the constant risk that he will come with me," Krajewski was quoted as saying.

Though he evaded a more direct follow up question, Krajewski set the grapevine ablaze with a single smile.

If Pope Francis is indeed hiding a super alter-ego, he would be merely continuing the tradition of Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio — the mortal he once was.

Bergoglio "would go out at night...to find people, talk with them, or buy them something to eat," Krajewski said. "He would sit with them and eat with them on the street. This is what he wants from me."

Wow! This Pope might even be as saintly as Russell Brand. Imagine. Talking to people and having something to eat. What a guy!

Or maybe I'm just being too susceptible to PR guff.
