so what does it say for all the talking heads pushing gold? they had no idea? people like Max Kaiser and Midas Resources and the like, profiteering on gold then when the inevitable crash comes the suckers lose out again.
I still fully believe that the value of physical gold and silver will increase significantly when the inevitable devaluation of currency occurs, and this is why you see 'emerging economies' particularly China, buying it like it's going out of fashion. To quote from the article:
In both cases, paper money has been stripped of meaning. It is no longer a reflection of production nor any of its components. It now simply exists of its own right – but it can survive as a measure only for so long as the government keeps such printing in small enough doses that the de-leveraging does not become apparent to workers.
Eventually, it will become apparent. This is why I don't think there will be a big SHTF scenario because I think they will go on printing more and more money, doing more and more 'quantitative easing' indefinitely. They've already got to the point where there are 50 million Americans on food stamps and 100 million unemployed Americans, yet the TV news still tells everyone that the US of A is the greatest nation in the world, and have you heard about Tom Cruise's divorce? And the BBC will cover up for the Bank of England all day long over here. But you can kick the can down the road, and kick the can down the road, but eventually it just won't be sustainable any more. This could come sooner than we think, or it may take some time. I suppose it's quite possible / probable that the gold markets will still be manipulated at that time, but I think there's only so much they can do to keep a lid on the physical market.
If you look at the US dollar index:

The value is still going up. This is absolutely ridiculous as the United States is flat, irretrievably broke, and will never, ever pay back its debts or be able to fund its liabilities. This will come home to roost eventually.
