Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been offered the chance to earn £200,000 for just a single hour of work with Morgan Stanley.

Should Sarkozy accept the job, he will be following a path well trod by former prime minister Tony Blair, who makes £2.5m a year from his role as an adviser to investment bank JP Morgan.

Having never been to one of his shows I don't what they will get for their money. If it's just an hour I hope he sticks to the hits and doesn't showcase any new stuff.

A sensible law would be that ex prime ministers or mp's can't except payments for speeches etc after leaving office.

We all know these payments are most likely for laws that the politicians have passed for these companies when the politician was in power .

I think we here should know by now that a politicians official pay when in office is incidental compared to what they make from the corporate world.

Many have businesses going while they are in office also, or use their connections later on.

I can offer a possible suggestion as to why:

The word "now" has several significances: in other languages these different types of "now" are conveyed by different words.

In Italian the word "adesso" means now meaning "the point in time or a situation that we have recently reached" while the word "ormai" means a poit or a situation in time that has not changed for some time and/or is too late to change.

An example of the difference would be this:

A young man who is celebrating his 18th birthday may say "I am an adult now, so I can drink in a pub".

A man in his seventies looking at his photo of when he had hair might say "No chance of wearing a D.A. I'm bald as an egg now"
