RBS and Nat-West customers couldn't use their bank cards yesterday.

Maybe Andy could come back with thoughts on my thought.
Just 6 months ago this group had a massive problem with people accessing their funds. Wages not going in, morgages not getting paid etc etc. Yes, people got 'compensated'. However, I remember thinking at the time.....the bank is making loads of dosh out of this. Now just last week RBS said they had made so many BILLION in profits! :O
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm :conf:

It is suspicious yes.
Theres a limit to incompetence and you would have expected them to have put fixes in place (as bloody promised!) from the last time.

If people can't move money then the bank does indeed benefit from it.

Is that true even thought the funds they have in are supposedly not visible to their own systems at the time?

I didn't know about today's goings on, but did use my switch card to buy diesel on the way home tonight, so the problem must have been resolved, or it hasn't effected everyone.

It was fixed this morning Gilly.

If the situation was that the bank lost all the data then they would not be able to recover it and have it fixed as it is now.
So the bank lost nothing and imho the money was at no time 'invisible' to the bank, just to us .

Sorry, I might easily have not made myself clear there. :emb:

When people couldn't access their money last year briefly, they claimed then not to be able to see whatever funds were in people's accounts - I didn't mean this time. So do you think that was misinformation from them?

Absolutely yes.
Total misinfo.

They basically just fucked up the accounts but they had an easy fix.

In todays world in banks they have clustered hardware and its cutting edge. By clustered I mean that if a server fails then another picks up automatically where it left off and the sys admins get an email/text letting them know of the failure, it gets repaired and put back online and syncs with the server thats running so that they're clustered again.

There's no way in hell that have everything on one server lol :)

IMHO whats happened here is a network issue not a server or data issue. You can probably blame the inaccurate reporting on either incompetent media and/or banks unwilling to give specifics from their PR dept who are probably also full of people who have sod all technical competence either...

In fact, the world turns round on the back of people who are completely unseen and unheard and paid very little compared to the useless assholes we do see :D

@Gilly.......Think of it as a 'client account'. In otherwords, whilst everybodys money was 'unavailable'..... those quadzillions were held in the 'backroom' of the bank aka 'client account'. Bit like solicitors practice etc. So whilst that money sat in the 'client account', the 'backroomboyz' were monopolising it! Simples! :D
