An absolute read by Reggie Middleton...including 20 minute vid explaining stuff
Global Banking Crisis - How & Why YOU Will Get "Cyprus'd" As This Bank Scrambled For Capital!!!
Submitted by Reggie Middleton on 04/01/2013 06:17 -0400

It is my opinion that banks worldwide are simply not safe anymore, and we are on the precipice of a banking crisis that will make the Lehman fiasco look like a test run. For one, interest rates will definitely have to rise. Yes, I know Bernanke is running ZIRP, the ECB is QE to infinity and beyond, yada, yada... But these entities are not the end all and be all for market rates. They can manipulate rates, but they can't ultimately control them for the long term. After 6 years, it's been long term... With banks failing and taking depositor's and bondholder's funds with them, there's simply not enough people stupid enough to accept .7% returns in exchange for the very likely possibility of losing a large chunk of (the majority of, or possibly all of) their principal to go around!!! This central bank Ponzi scheme of printing more money to pay for the debt that you couldn't afford to pay back because you didn't have the money relies on the "Greater Fool Theory". Common sense dictates that this theory is predicated on an ample supply of "Greater Fools". What you will read below should shake the foundations of your belief in the EU banking system, and hopefully will start a dearth in "Greater Fools"! Even more alarming, it actually gets worse from here. Oh yeah, if you have believe that the information below actually identifies a gross misrepresentation of fact, omission or outright fraud, simply contact the SEC and let them know that Reggie Middleton suggested they look into it. You can actually use this form to convery my message.

I have compiled a list of at least 6 banks which I feel are at risk of being Cyprus'd, with more being added weekly. The first bank report, whose subject is still steadily accepting deposits at measly interest rates, is available for download right now for all paying BoomBustBlog subscribers (click here to subscribe), reference EU Bank Capital Confusion, Potential Failure. Those of you who actually follow this banking stuff may very well be shocked at how bold the actions described therein actually are!

First Off Let's Make Bank Collapse Real...
To begin with, let's make this Cyprus thing real, by showing a live example of what happens when to a real small business that had the gall to bank with Laikie Bank, from the Bitcoin forum I excerpt a post that puts things into perspective, re: bank account confiscation:

There is an actual bankstatement screenshot here

Most of the circulating assets on our business Current Account are blocked.
Over 700k of expropriated money will be used to repay country's debt. Probably we will get back about 20% of this amount in 6-7 years.
I'm not Russian oligarch, but just European medium size IT business. Thousands of other companies around Cyprus have the same situation.
The business is definitely ruined, all Cypriot workers to be fired.
We are moving to small Caribbean country where authorities have more respect to people's assets. Also we are thinking about using Bitcoin to pay wages and for payments between our partners.
Special thanks to:

- Angela Merkel
- Manuel Barroso
- the rest of officials of "European Comission"

List Released With 132 Names Who Pulled Cyprus Deposits Ahead Of "Confiscation Day"

With every passing day, it becomes clearer and clearer the Cyprus deposit confiscation "news" was the most unsurprising outcome for the nation's financial system and was known by virtually everyone on the ground days and weeks in advance: first it was disclosed that Russians had been pulling their money, then it was suggested the president himself had made sure some €21 million of his family's money was parked safely in London, then we showed a massive surge in Cyprus deposit outflows in February, and now the latest news is that a list of 132 companies and individuals has emerged who withdrew their €-denominated deposits in the two weeks from March 1 to March 15, among which the previously noted company Loutsios & Sons which is alleged to have ties with the current Cypriot president Anastasiadis.

2 weeks before Ireland had its share of bothers, over 40 billion euros 'disappeared' from bank accounts.
Ofc no-one in the media connected this to a bank run (despite telling us about it) and hence the 'problem'.

What you have to ask yourself is, what sort of scenario could you envisage where a central bank does not have 'enough' money? :D
The whole thing is so mind staggeringly huuuge it beggars belief.
Its why Mike for example still continues to believe in it, his mind cannot comprehend the alternative.

No not necessarily Mike....let's be honest, who wouldn't if you had their kind of wealth, were responsible for your company's future and paying wages and you heard the rumblings. Having said that, they certainly hammered the last nail into Cyprus' coffin with their actions...a rock and a hard place for them I guess.

Cyprus plans to lift a ban on casinos and offer firms tax exemptions on profits reinvested on the island under a package of reforms to kickstart its ailing economy, its president said on Monday.

The country's euro zone partners agreed on a 10 billion euro rescue package last Monday after weeks of tense negotiations that showed the debt crisis racking the 17-nation currency union is far from over.

The tough terms of the deal look set to deepen the island's recession, shrink its banking sector and lead to thousands of job losses, while the capital controls imposed to prevent a run on Cypriot banks may test the ties that bind the single-currency bloc as a whole.

President Nicos Anastasiades, who briefed ministers on the economy at an informal meeting on Monday, said the 12-point growth plan would be put to the cabinet for approval within the next 15 days.

The programme includes measures to attract foreign investment to the island - a hub for offshore finance - as well as tax exemptions on business profits reinvested there, and the easing of payment terms and interest rates on loans.

I've had time to read this and watch the video now, although it was a few days ago. But I think I can remember most of it. I totally agree that other banks will be 'Cypused', as he put it, I don't believe any bank in Europe can guarantee deposits. I couldn't really comment about some of the more technical stuff, as I don't know anything like as much about it as he does.

But I don't agree with his views on interest rates at least with regard to the UK. He may very well be right with regard to Europe, I don't know. But certainly in Britain there is so much personal debt:

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/98...ebt-levels-soar.html
Figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that the average indebted household increased their non-mortgage borrowings by £400 between 2008 and 2010, to £3,200. In total, households’ financial liabilities rose 10.3pc from £85.9bn to £94.7bn in just two years.

www.mortgagestrategy.co.uk/latest-news/u...ifax/1065399.article
The value of mortgage debt has risen by 88 per cent since 2002, from £675bn to £1.27tn, according to Halifax.

www.thedebtpeople.co.uk/debt-management-...ehold-debt-is-57635/
The national charity Credit Action has released its debt statistics for March, with the results showing that the average debt for UK households is £57,635.
And very little in the way of savings:

citywire.co.uk/money/asset-rich-cash-poo...4-in-savings/a579578
Conversely, the average adult has just £1,574 in savings, a 15% decrease on last year, and 27% of people have no savings at all.
...that I don't think this rise in interest rates can happen in the UK because it would be pandemonium. People are barely breaking even now. Of course, the banks want to steal everything from everyone, but they like to do it slowly, the boiling the frog technique, so that not many people notice that they're getting fucked every day of their lives. The Daily Telegraph predicted the following:

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfina...re-years-of-0.5.html
Interest rates at 0.5pc 'for four more years'
They might be wrong, but I see this as more likely. Put it this way, if interest rates do rise significantly then the lid's coming off the kettle.

But either way, I wouldn't have any money in the bank, or the bare minimum that you can for practical purposes, as any country could be next to get the Cyprus treatment. There is a short article regarding this here:

famagusta-gazette.com/cyprus-must-find-m...nsions-p18881-69.htm
Cyprus must find €80 million by April 29 to pay wages and pensions

IN A SIGN of increased urgency, the Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades has said that there would be a default of payments if the bailout agreement with the Troika was not ratified and the first installment was not disbursed.

He clarified that there would be no suspension of payments if everything went as planned but only if the bailout agreement was not ratified, either in Cyprus or the Eurozone.

Georgiades pointed out that the previous government had been saying there was enough money to last until April.

"We are in this borderline situation and that is why the new government, from the day it took over, has promoted the negotiation process with the Troika," he added.

He noted that an agreement has been reached, which "must be ratified by our lenders, the Eurozone member states, a procedure which begins this week from the Eurogroup meeting."

Commenting on remarks by the Accountant General Rea Georgiou that €80 million had to be found by April 29 otherwise there would be a suspension of payments, Georgiades assured that efforts were being made for the state to continue to operate until the first installment arrived.

Replying to questions, Georgiades pointed out the necessity to stabilise the situation in the banking system the soonest possible, noting that the restrictive measures should loosen gradually, so that the banking system could regain its trust and the economy and its productive sectors could function.

"This is the aim of the government, this is our priority and during this period we will stabilise the situation," he added.
To other questions, Georgiades clarified that Cyprus would not be leaving the Euro, pointing out that leaving the eurozone would take Cyprus back centuries. He added that "we are doomed to try and to succeed."

He said the government has undertaken its responsibilities and has put forward a proposal. "We know it is painful. We are paying the price of a course that has led the Cypriot economy to the brink of destruction.

Unfortunately, this is the time we are paying the bill for past mistakes, omissions and neglect but we are determined to look ahead, to restart the economy and of course stay in the European family," he added.
There is an article about this on Press TV as well which is not currently working, but the link is here:

Cypriot politicians have reacted with fury to news that the crisis-hit country will be forced to find an extra €6bn (£5bn) to contribute to its own bailout, much of which is expected to come from savers at its struggling banks.

A leaked draft of the updated rescue plan, which emerged late on Wednesday night, revealed that the total bill for the bailout has risen to €23bn, from an original estimate of €17bn, less than a month after the deal was agreed – and the entire extra cost will be imposed on Nicosia.

Visiting Athens, the Cypriot parliament's president, Yannakis Omirou, said the tiny island nation had been "served poison" by its EU partners.

Cyprus's politicians had already faced intense domestic political pressure for agreeing to impose hefty losses on savers at two struggling banks to fulfil its eurozone partners' original demand that they contribute €7bn.

But after a more detailed "debt sustainability analysis" showed that the black hole in the island nation's finances is far deeper than first thought, the total cost for Cypriot taxpayers and depositors has now been set at €13bn, with €10bn to come from its eurozone partners and the International Monetary Fund. The €23bn overall bill is larger than an entire year's output from the Cypriot economy.

angelchemuel wrote: Crazy, but unsurprising. According to this the GDP of Cypus is about $25 billion, which is circa 19 million euros. So in effect this is like someone coming to Britain and stating that it needs to contribute £1.5 trillion to its own bailout.

I did notice the following in that article:
Cyprus is also expected to be forced to sell €400m of gold reserves
So their physical assets will be in decline, while they're increasingly reliant on the stability of the Euro and their own banks for their survival. It's not a very good situation to be in.

Same thing has happened all over the EU.
First one bailout figure then another and another and more and more money gets poured down the proverbial black hole.
