HSBC is cutting 3,166 UK jobs as it continues efforts to reduce costs.

The bank said the positions would mostly go from its wealth management division, but that it hoped to redeploy more than 2,000 of the affected staff.

The cuts are part of HSBC's continuing three-year cost-cutting plan, and follows the loss of 2,200 jobs in 2012.

They have been struggling...

HSBC has announced a pre-tax profit of £13.7bn for 2012, down 6% on the previous year.

The figure was below City forecasts of around £15.6bn.
They're also down to their last $2.6 trillion of assets:

Don't worry, though, if they're ever in any financial difficulties, they'll just steal your deposit money or get bailed out by taxpayers.

I am guessing you would like my input on this topic? Or would you just like to pretend I have ever said such things? For the record I think it is bullshit when companies making profit sack workers to boost profits because profits are down. I also think it is bull shit when banks are bailed out. I have no clue why you would make up shit like that Andy unless you are part banker part worker.

I know the bank made profits. I said profits were down. As in not as big profits as last year. I am not sure why you are trying to fight on a topic we appear to agree on. Just part of your poor sportsmanship I reckon.

Well I don't really think it's a bad thing from my perspective at all really, I mean really we got fucked over by the banks and it's taken a Social Democratic Europe to introduce progressive legislation/regulatory reform of the banking sector to try and win some back from the bonuses all these cunts give themselves for running losses, what exactly does a Wealth Management division do?
" The bank said the positions would mostly go from its wealth management division, but that it hoped to redeploy more than 2,000 of the affected staff."

Redeploy like they're some sort of cyborg army of number crunchers who's brain is half calculator and half empty gaping void obsessed with the accumulation of things

What is the significance of this story do you think WUB, is this anything to do with the recent European banking reforms?
The move, part of a package of banking regulations known as Basel III that is aimed at reducing the danger of big bank failures, was hailed Thursday by some European lawmakers.

‘'We’ve achieved the most comprehensive banking reform in the European Union,'’ said Othmar Karas, an Austrian member of the European Parliament who helped find a compromise in a late-night negotiating session with representative from E.U. member states and the European Commission.

A majority of the Union’s 27 member nations would need to approve the rules for them to take effect.

Cameron will drag his feet on this, I wonder how his plan to remove UK from Europe by calling a referendum on it after the next election, it puts the heat on Ed to call a referendum aswell, depending on how much the media propagandise the negatives aspects of Liberal European regulations, the slow creep of "communism" etc ;)

I doubt these Wealth Management Division boys were on paltry salaries they'll probably not be affected by the Benefit cuts currently ongoing, the Tories here want a US healthcare system and Police force but as you know yourself even America has been trying to move away from that.

Even when I still lived in the U.K. the nhs was moving in the wrong direction. When Americans asked me about the U.K.'s healthcare system I always said it was far from perfect but better than America's system.

Nothing whatsoever. It's not a significant story, it's nothing that hasn't happened dozens of times in the past, and will happen dozens of times again in the future. It just exemplifies and illustrates the real issue that most people face.
