The European Central Bank (ECB) has cut its benchmark interest rate to a new record low amid ongoing worries about the eurozone's economic health.

The widely-expected cut to 0.50% from 0.75% is the first in 10 months.

Lender raises 'tracker' mortgage rates for 13,500 customers

Some UK borrowers with the Bank of Ireland will see their monthly interest payments more than double today

Thousands of UK mortgage customers who have borrowed from the Bank of Ireland will see their monthly interest payments double from today as the Bank raises its tracker rate.

The lender announced plans to raise rates in February, saying that despite the Bank Rate staying at 0.5pc for four years, the Bank had the right to invoke "special conditions" that allows it to increase the margin by which its tracks this rate.

From today all residential mortgage customers will see the rate they pay rise to 2.49pc above that Bank Rate, with a further increase to 3.99pc above from October 1. Previously customers were on a range of tracker deals, with some paying just 1.75pc above the Bank Rate.

Thats right yep, CB rates go down, mortgage rates go up...go figure lol :)

The boss of the bank gets an 800k salary btw and the govt did fuck all about that too.
They're actually encouraging house repo's in ireland at the moment. Govt want it to happen even faster, meanwhile supposedly the voters now favour putting FF back in again...jesus strewth :facepalm:

I dunno how anyone can say that this isn't the most clear and present danger facing everyone at this moment in time, even if you don't own property and you don't have savings this is still going to affect everyones lives based on the decisions that are going to be made over the next few months.
