A confidential report commissioned by the government has proposed redrawing the terms of student loans taken out over the past 15 years, that would make them more expensive to pay back for 3.6 million borrowers in England alone.

The proposal to increase the interest rates on the £40bn worth of loans is the most controversial of a series of options contained in a Whitehall-commissioned study examining how the coalition could privatise the entire stock of student loans issued since 1998.

Increasing the amount that students would be forced to pay back would make the loans more attractive to buyers.

The document, prepared by Rothschild investment bank, was submitted to the business department in November 2011, but is understood to still be under active review. It has never been made public, or been seen by higher education professionals.

And the taxation continues to rise, despite massive privatisation.

Both overt taxation such as income tax and stealth tax such as this, because lets face it, the education system is there to gain financial advantage nothing else and even that is imho a mirage as the real money is made with who you know and not what you know.
The best 'what' you can know is how to be self employed and identify business opportunities. This is evidenced by merely looking at certain trades available from certain education, for example dentistry.
A dentist can make several times what a nuclear scientist can, not only that he can make that money from day one.
A scientist has to leave uni and earn a shitty wage in a shitty job and work his way up the ladder for a decade or more, perhaps go back and get an MSc or a PhD and consider him/herself lucky to earn 20-30k....this is a fucking joke tbh.

The guy who leaves school at 16 years old and starts out earning money if he lives with parents and doesn't get into debt (unlike the uni crowd) will actually stand to get a 5 or 6 year head start and will probably end up in skilled blue collar work earning the same fucking money anyway , just sooner than the bloody scientist.

I mean...is it any wonder we have so few people bothering to get serious degrees now?
And yet, the whole world relies on there being people like that including the ones running the show, stupid egits lol :p

The funny thing as well is that you will meet people, I have to put up with one occasionally, who will say that there are too many people at uni, that getting an education is pointless and that more people should leave school at 16. But when I point out to him that there are no jobs, no apprenticeships, and he's constantly whinging about doleys even though he knows nothing about the benefit system whatsoever, he has no answer to this at all. But then he'll still be in favour of workfare, and of students being given no financial help for their courses.

It's so easy to socially condition the public because they can and will take two completely contradictory positions and not see that they contradict each other. After all, politicians do it all the time, so why should they be any different?
