Its pretty obvious to most people with half a brain cell that its profitable to sell as much as you can.
:killinme:

garages do preventative maintenance on cars and repairs on cars that have had the preventative maintenance anyway, same deal. They do not do merely one extreme or the other so the argument is invalid.

This is complete nonsense, nobody would repeatedly enter into a voluntary contractual agreement with another if one party was repeatedly making unnecessary mistakes causing one party to profit.
It's like saying someone would choose to return to a dark alley where they were robbed time and again.
It's only when you put a gun to someones head and remove their capacity to take responsibility for themselves that you see this kind of idiocy.
andyh wrote:
Its also quite incorrect to state that simply charging more will solve the problem of having a cure for disease, market saturation would be inevitably reached and there would then be no demand and therefore no profits. If you charge too much then there would be no demand anyway because there'd be no-one who could afford it...apart from stupid things like banks who can print infinite money ofc but that would skew the free market model wouldn't it and what free market economist would want that?

It would be a problem if all disease would be cured due to "market saturation" ?
:umm:

If all disease was cured I think the individuals who were competent enough to manage this would find another source of income.

You can only charge what people can pay, the realities of maximum resources of a physical system are the same whether a society is free or Statist, again you're dragging the state into something that could be a Voluntary solution with your reference to State Fiat /Fractional Reserve, of course State fiat could not exist in a free society by definition and no rational person would engage with a Fractional Reserve monetary system such as we see today, given a choice.

Ofc you can only charge what people can pay so again what would be the point in selling cures for disease?
I can see there being some great altruistic profit to be had from it but only very quickly finished financial profit and not only that it would end the entire business model.

As for the FR monetary system how do you ever see there being an end to that and choice in the matter?

I'm not sure I understand the question andyh.
There's plenty of potential reasons.
1) You get something in exchange for your work in curing disease.
2) You get some satisfaction from helping people.
3) You get satisfaction from solving a problem.

etc

Why do people work to cure disease now (if they do at all in your estimation)?
What would change these motivations if you took the initiation of force out of the picture?
andyh said

Sure, that's possible, I don't see the problem though.
By the same token if a statist system ever did cure disease should resources keep being pumped in to perpetuate the system ?
As for the FR monetary system how do you ever see there being an end to that and choice in the matter?

First of all we've really been throwing around arguments about two different systems, a free system and a statist one, you can't have a partly free system, just like you can't be a little bit pregnant.

I don't know how the end to the FR slavery system will come about, I don't think BC is the answer but I think that cat is out of the bag and will become increasingly harder to control, I think we've also seen an increasing movement towards a free and rational society in the last few thousand years, technology and communication systems are a catalyst, ultimately it lies with the individual, it's a psychological problem, one that I've spent a lot of time thinking about and don't have any solid answers for. More people develop Will, how does that happen? I don't know but I have seen it happen.

The problem is that if you bring an end to demand then the business collapses and then people are out of work.
The more this happens across various business areas the more likely the entire economic system tips into collapse.
This is inevitable anyway at some point as population size grows and possible profit opportunities narrow.
There was once a time when you could point to new innovative models appearing but now we see outsourcing changing all that and thats going to happen regardless of state intervention, even if there were no states or gov at all people would simply seek what is most profitable and what is most profitable is not necessarily in the best interests of humanity at large, thats the point I was trying to get across by stating that if you cure one disease, for example AIDS then all the business surrounding it is then gone. Brilliant that the disease is gone , no denying that but what would be the motive to do so from a financial perspective? The human perspective is definitely there, no arguing that and I'm all for it, however I see no gains to be made within a monetary system for that to actually happen because people need to eat and pay bills, simple as. Unless that is addressed first then you will not see the latter sorted.
For the time being AIDS is NOT cured, it is simply 'managed', many such similar situations exist within so called healthcare or perhaps deathcare as you'd prefer to call it and I wouldn't blame you either, however I blame the profit motive itself as core blame rather than any state which itself basically exists for profit motive in turn :)

I'm not sure what you mean by BC (basic credit, ie treasury bills?)
I only see co-ops as a way of addressing it all like mondragon because it puts more direct control in the hands of the public instead of state, it also reduces tax to the state because everyones self-employed and reliance on the state because they have their own infrastructure and services, it also keeps the profit within the system because they have their own shops selling goods to their own workers.

Not a perfect model by any means but a damn site better than the one we put up with now and once in such a situation people are better situated to come up with yet better models.
You are also correct to hint at advancing technology increasing dissemination of information and therefore resistance to the old paradigm model, however, thats assuming that the new tech itself does not become controlled, its probably a pivotal thing to focus on in the near future.

The National Health Service has become the butt of increasingly outlandish political attacks in the US as Republicans and conservative campaigners rail against Britain's "socialist" system
Top-ranking Republicans have joined bloggers and well-funded free market organisations in scorning the NHS for its waiting lists and for "rationing" the availability of expensive treatments.

The health system in Malta is ranked as one of the best in the world.
For everyones info its based on the NHS, free at point of delivery and it works well, quite simply because of the lower population and easier planning and maintenance.

US right-wing response to NHS at Olympic Ceremony

The tweets by these so-called "libertarians" (i.e. wingnuts under a new name) really give you insight into the Astroturf Koch funded propaganda campaign launched by big money and their little suck up minions.

Daniel Hannan, the newly famous Conservative MEP thinks that the NHS is a “sixty year mistake”.

Who?

Well a self-described "libertarian" and Tory.
“Daniel Hannan told an American TV channel that our Doctors and Nurses made people “iller”. David Cameron should go on British TV and apologise to NHS staff for these ignorant and insulting remarks.”

Of course. On FOX.

If someone is providing a better treatment for a disease, people will want that treatment, they would be willing to pay more, it’s basic free market competition.
The diseases are cured, job over, you move on to the next opportunity and compete in a new field, attempt to come up with better and/or cheaper solutions, ad infinutum, when all the worlds problems are solved people will want hoverboards ,self tying shoelaces and flying dogs etc.

**Did I read that in Jaques Frescoes manifesto???** :hide:

A free economic system cannot collapse unless the need for resources and desire for goods collapses.
The collapses we have seen in the last 100 years have been the direct result of centralisation and I would argue that the major ones have been intentional also.

As for outsourcing, you need to ask why? And those jobs areb’t dissappearing, they are moving, there’s no doubt that money is a factor but it’s not the reason. Who controls the monetary supply, coprorations, and state policies? ,What type of entities are outsourcing? Could they exist in a free society?

There really isn’t a true profit motive in healthcare because of state intervention it’s practically impossible. Yeah you can make huge amounts of money at the expense of other poeples misfortune but that’s because you’re playing to the state and not the customer. A lot is being made these days of cannabinoids as treatments for diseases, if profit motive existed in a free society people would be growing the herb in their back garden and sellling it for next to nothing, instead, today, you would be locked up for pursuing profit and delivering people cheap medicine should they want it.

Umm no flying dogs and hoverboards does not cut it. They can still be made in China.
A free economic system cannot collapse unless the need for resources and desire for goods collapses.
The collapses we have seen in the last 100 years have been the direct result of centralisation and I would argue that the major ones have been intentional also.
For starters we don't have a free economic system, we have never had one and we never will.
If someone can point out otherwise then good luck, go for it lol.
Your answers have to be more realistic than if only pipe dreams that are actually even more difficult to attain than Fresco's TVP.
Anyone who actually considers what a true free economy involves would have to come to the same conclusion, it is impossible.
You would have to forcefully take from people who already have a lot of the wealth and start again from scratch, otherwise the game is already rigged and destined for control into few hands again.
As population grows wealth increases, humans create wealth.
lol tell that to the africans...
Durh...business is outsourcing to china because the labour is cheaper = more profit and yes they could exist in a free society because there would be no restrictions on business to source labour elsewhere, for that matter there would be no restriction on slavery either because its a free economy right?
You obviously didn't think about it that much tbh...

If you think poeple would only/primarily seek profit and that this is a bad thing, what prevents that type of thing in a statist society? How is that working out?
What do you think businesses do? Twiddle their thumbs and pay employees from money that appears out of thin air?
The whole point of business is profit ffs lol.
There really isn’t a true profit motive in healthcare because of state intervention it’s practically impossible. Yeah you can make huge amounts of money at the expense of other poeples misfortune but that’s because you’re playing to the state and not the customer. Errr no, if anyone could grow their own weed then they wouldn't need to bloody buy it
You might be able to sell seeds initially but I can't see that business lasting long either :)

Sorry, I meant bitcoin or other digital currencies, even LETS or some of the time accounting software.

Andyh,

At this point if you pretend to not comprehend the difference between free markets and slavery this seems to be a waste of time.
You've misrepresented everything else in that post, intentionally from my reading, at any rate there's no point in me responding to your straw man arguments.

A free market would have to include slavery by very definition of the word lol.
Just as it would have to include arms trade, polluting chemicals and a whole paraphernalia of assorted evil that evil people want to do.
Theres this ridiculous assumption that everyones somehow going to do the right and perfect thing by everyone else with this hidden hand of greed, its hilarious tbh. Totally unfeasible and unrealistic, even more so than Fresco's ideas. We could cull about 80 or 90% of the human race and start again and it might be workable for a while...lol.

You don't need to control them, once the cult os statism is gone they won't have any source of funding.
I'd rather be free and have bad people in the world than be a slave and be owned by bad people and their cult followers.
I don't want to, or need to control anyone, that's a sign of severe mental illness in my opinion.
