OK, so, I want to know - Where is YOUR money?!

Financial bad news stories are on the increase again & there's lots of speculation and advice over the web about where's best - safest - to move your money; bitcoin, gold, even classic cars - but I wonder if anyone with such ideas are actually putting their money where their mouth is (sorry :emb: :spank: )

Unfortunately I don't have much money to re-home should I want to, so just asking for curiousity, I'm not after financial advice. :D

i dont have much money - no bank account nor building society account - my earnings cover my outgoings almost exactly - i make a list of stuff i need and save until there is enough for that item then start over. a small contingency fund is kept in a coffee jar incase of emergencies and i barter a lot rather then use money.

Last year mr thoreau and i sold a load of the stuff i had made and had no idea what to do with the money so we gave away to an aquaintance struggling to get a deposit together Would rather give it away than put in a bank.

not quite what you are after but tis what it tis :)

Yep I seem to have a fair amount of cashflow - as in... it flows ..... quickly :D ... but never enough to really save / invest.

I try and avoid DDs if at all possible and pay manually, as I remember my Grandad saying 'wait til the red bill. Better earning you interest than them'.
(Oh how we laugh now at the idea of current account interest  )

I'm really organised with paperwork etc but a bit of a hoarder it seems when it comes to financial products so the 2 qualities seem to cancel eachother out when it comes to managing money!

I've got current accounts with Halifax, Nationwide (x2), Natwest, Co-op :emb:
Never enough in there to worry about it getting swallowed up - tbh for half the month I'm overdrawn I reckon.

I did have small savings with Nationwide, in a standard ISA. Then a few years ago moved them to a Fidelity stocks & shares and did OK there, but pulled out reading horror stories about how the market was about to crash again!

So spent some & put the rest in to a peer-to-peer business lending scheme.
Also got wobbly about that the last week and thought fuck it I'll book a holiday and spend some money around the house, so put in a withdrawal request.

Got an email back advising I need to contact them during office hours to discuss my request before they can release MY money? :conf:

I'm starting to wonder whether under the mattress is better....

& also cuss myself everytime I get to a checkout (double cuss if I go through the self scan :emb: ) & don't have any cash on me.

Been trying to make an effort recently to withdraw & pay in cash, rather than card.

Also if I'm feeling really rebelious I might deface them subtly before I use them.....

Building societies and credit unions as they are the only properly regulated financial institutions. As a result of that regulation, they have not attracted the bankers who want to rip off everyone else to fund their own lavish lifestyles.

I'm interested that nobody has come on this thread raving about bitcoin, gold or silver.

But there are other corners of the net (on an alternative type forum such as this) that would have been crawling with links to precious metal trade websites & bit farming - or whatever it's called :emb: - sites.

I do wonder (yes I'm a bit slow :D ) whether a lot of posts by supposed lucky investors linking to such are just to drive traffic & try & inflate prices.

I think it is very appropriate that the first speculative bubble was over tulip bulbs

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_mania

Smart people will invest in the bubbles and then get out. Too many people are daft and come in too late or stay too long or think the bubble will never end. Bitcoin is based on even less than tulipmania and will end. Gold, sliver and other metals will rise and fall as clever and daft people case supposedly easy money.
