SANTIAGO. - In Chile Civil Registry presented annually over 2 million identity cards and an average of 240,000 passports. After several months of bidding, this Thursday the Ministry of Justice presented the prototype of the new documents shall take effect from 2013 and that have advanced technology, to be electronic.
The Justice Minister Teodoro Ribera, with the director of the Civil Registry, Rodrigo Durán, the card will be detailed polycarbonate and have a "chip" device with stored information, will safeguard the sanctity of biographical background and biometric of the person, which will provide greater security and functionality in its use.
This microchip, both the new card and the passport will contain images of fingerprints, photograph, name, surname, date of birth, registration of birth, occupation and sex, among other data specific to the holder. "It is not excluded in the future and as technology allows, add health information or other vital," said the minister.
The new identity card will have 21 security measures: 11 are Level 1, meaning that they are appreciated by the naked eye by any person, another 8 Level 2, visible only with a magnifying glass and special light and two measures Level 3, captured only by experts with special instruments.
As for the new passport, it will also have a microchip that will give greater security, and enable global interoperability to verify its authenticity. This complies with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, which is more flexible and interoperable authentication and allows active and passive.
Its pages are polycarbonate identification, will be thicker, with embedded chip and antenna. Also have a high bending resistance, laser drilling of the sheets.
Bidding
The instruments were awarded to the company Morpho SA, which for a period of 10 years will be responsible for providing the identification system, identity and travel documents, and related services, for an amount that borders the 380 million dollars.
The project includes the development of the new identity card, passport and safe conduct Arica-Tacna and services from third parties to verify the identity of people.

Currently more than 50 countries who are using this type of electronic passport, including the United States, Britain, Germany and France.
