I don't know why we have two sets of teeth, but I have a few guesses as to why.
Babies/young children's jaws are too small to accommodate a full set of adult teeth, so the first set might serve some other purpose than the obvious. They may help to guide/set the stage for proper growth pattern of more specialized adult teeth when they reach that growth stage. Unlike lesser advanced species like sharks that grab and slice, we don't need to constantly replace teeth.
For anyone with tooth decay problems, cut out high fructose corn syrup, and white flour from your diet. Ingest a healthy amount of phosphates, calcium, and Omega-3 (which is great for dealing with oral infection and gum inflammation). Get rid of fluoridated toothpaste (this is one of the most important parts), and switch over to a toothpaste that uses xylitol.
Xylitol is a naturally occurring enzyme found in many plants and fungi. There are high levels of it in birch trees. It was originally used in northern Europe as an alternative to sugar for diabetics. It was later found to have some interesting and beneficial dental hygiene properties. When it enters the human body, it causes an increase in saliva flow which prevents bacterial growth. It also turns the human saliva into a more alkaline state, making it a harsher environment for oral bacteria. This same chemical change causes the inner areas of human teeth to call for more calcium and phosphates to areas with weakened enamel, which causes the teeth to actually repair themselves. It does have a few negative properties. It can have a laxative effect for some first time users, but goes away with regular use. I didn't experience that myself. Xylitol is really bad for dogs. Small doses can cause hypoglycemia, while larger doses can cause death via organ failure. Keep away from your dogs!
What Mr I said.
I'd also add a little sodium bicarb rubbed into the gums when there is pain always works wonders for me. If you're doing it for yourself, mix a little up into a paste and have a good, old brush with the stuff.
I have a theory re teeth actually...as well as other body 'parts'. I reckon we
should be perfectly capable of re-growing bits and pieces as required, given adequate nutrition and mental focus. I think the baby/adult teeth thing is a bit of ruse, tbh. What would the poor, old dental industry do if we all knew we could just regrow or repair our own teeth? I've tried to see if I could do it myself but the pain just gets the better of me, especially with my rubbish diet and fizzy pop addiction, so I've had quite a few yanked.
I still hope to perfect this self-repair technique though, so I'll be sure and let you all know as and when I start sprouting new gnashers. I'm focusing on penis growth at present and don't want to spread my mental abilities too thin.
