Hey Lesley. According to the vid in op they do, and have been since the 70s. I know sugar isn't much better for you, but my concern is that they have been adding this replacement to stuff and calling it "sugar", when it isn't and can have some dire consequences to your health.
I agree with Hada that it's all down to individual choice and responsibility, but that argument kind of falls on its arse when you are told that something is something that it isn't and some cases, aren't told at all (at least not in any way you'd be able to tell, unless you knew what you were looking for), particularly when it's added to prolong shelf-life and stuff. Vid is worth a watch if you have the time: it was on i-player from the beeb, which makes me wary, but I kind of knew something like this was going on before I watched it. If there is an angle, I haven't figured it out yet.

Thanks for summarising the vid. I started watching it, but nodded off during it

Not because it was boring though.
That sucks that they put it in stuff in the UK. Really another problem is that people become addicted to this stuff. Normal sugar too. They try to eat healthily, but their insulin levels are out of whack and they end up like junkies who need their fix. Before I nodded off I watched the bit about the scientist saying we are cavemen. We love all the sugary high fat stuff.
I love it. In fact, I have to be really strict with myself.

I had a sugar addiction, probablly still have one and not a day goes by when I don't fantasise about chocolate, cake, icecream, scones with jam and clotted cream and other deliciously sinful foods. Many people are the same. However, people can stop eating this stuff, but it's like any other addiction. They have to reach the point when they're sick and tired of being sick and tired.
