Which is healthiest?

Which do you prefer?

I bought some butter the other day, and I like it but it's so hard to spread, grrr. Can any of you fine peeps give me some butter spreading tips? :D

You need a butter dish :) Then you can leave it out of the fridge to soften up for a bit.

Thanks Lesley :) I'll get one, there's probably one at the bottom of a bag somewhere. My mum likes to buy utensils and things but she never uses them :D
She's been buying knitting magazines for months, but hasn't knitted a thing :chuckle:

Personally I wouldn't touch margarine ever!

With butter all you need to do is get a small ramekin or plate and then slice off 25g or so of butter and put it in the ramekin and microwave for 10-15 sec and you're good to go. It's about the only thing a microwave is any good for apart from heating peas and cooking porridge.

If you want some quality butter try some of this it's how butter used to be in the old days.

This. I have a larder and a dish and it spreads just perfect every time. In place of a real larder, you just need to keep it somewhere cool and dark once you've got a dish.

Whatever did we do before fridges?

As for which is better, go edumakate yourself, irre. Margarine is evil and the work of the devil. :villagers:

Has to be real butter - margarine tastes awful and I don't like eating anything that has ingredients listed that I have to look up to know what they are. Making your own butter is pretty simple though not cost effective unless you get ridiculously low priced cream or have your own cow - but still a good work out and tastes awesome - plus you know for sure whats in it - always a bonus with food :)

not a fan of either usually use mayo for my butties ,not exactly healthy but a lot nicer than butter or marge on a chicken baguette

and olive oil/veg oil for cooking

to make butter spreadable if it's really hard, use a microwave for a couple of seconds to melt it a bit

I prefer the quickest, easiest, most chemically enhanced substance I can slather on my food for a nice discount price.

Not one of those prevention folks. I've put worse chemicals in my body voluntarily than what's in margarine.

Then again I'm a just a fat, lazy, drug addled American. :usa:

Prefer butter... used margarine for a long time, but discovered it's like 1 molecule off from plastic, so now it'd be over my dead body margarine would be found in the house.

Just leave it sit out, can reuse plastic margarine containers by putting your butter in it (cutting it up to fit) then put the lid on to keep any bugs out and leave it on the counter. Can even mix a bit of olive oil with it to make it spread easier.
