Healthy Food: 50 of The Best in The World

R HEALTHY FOODS Large570

Each month at HuffPost Healthy Living, we compile lists of the most in-season, fresh superfoods -- this June, for instance, we celebrated figs, zucchini and apricots, among others. But these monthly articles got us thinking -- what are some of the healthiest foods generally, despite the season?

And so we turned to some of our favorite medical and nutritional experts to come up with this list of 50 of the healthiest foods, presented alphabetically. Pad your grocery list with these and you'll be on your way to a healthier, more vibrant diet. Of course, even as we editors finished the list, we started thinking of more ("How could carrots not be on the list?" "What about black pepper?"). So we plan to follow up with a second list of healthy foods. Let us know in the comments which of your favorites we skipped and they could appear soon.

Read on, but first -- meet our expert panel:

•Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald, HuffPost Wellness Editor
•Dr. David Katz, HuffPost blogger and founding director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center
•Joy L. Bauer, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., founder of Joy Bauer Nutrition Centers and the nutrition expert on the "Today!" show

Excellent thread BTW
A link to a healthy food that I would really like to learn to enjoy, because they are a really good backpack addition for hiking or camping, and some say really good for you.I just don't enjoy them much, maybe the ones in oil but that's about it.

learn how your body burns fuel and that is vital
also never NEVER trust anyone selling a diet or product range to help lose weight boost energy
or nonsense like that because its impossible
to tailor nutrition to individual needs on the back of a can or in a leaflet /dvd

learn how to fuel yourself then learn recipes
not the other way around which is like running before you can walk ,

super food is anything that works towards relieving a nutritional problem and could be
as simple as a can of coke and a pork pie
and no im not kidding or being flippant
super foods are indeed full of goodies
but do you need those goodies or other goodies if you see what i mean .

you wont run a marathon on a glass of cranberry juice and a bowl of almonds
and that pork pie might make you vomit
but full sugar drinks normally considered bad
will do the trick nicely .

my list of top super foods would be soft drinks full sugar unless medical issues dictate avoid diet drinks they are total waste of time
bread and honey or jam is awesome slow energy release and quick sugar hit to get you by until then,
all fruit n veg good .
meat or some form of protien as a recovery food is a must .
does a berry high in vit c get me goibg again quicker than an apple im not sure it even matters big thing is the fibre and sugars
im sure my body apreciates the extra vitamins as it discards the excess though
