I get a real sense of nourishment from several food or drink items, these items don't always give me this sense but if completely exhausted or having been sick in some way, I realize how they effect me.

Vegetable juice if my stomach has been upset and I feel drained,it's like when I drink vegetable juice I can just feel it nourishing my body.
Carrots boiled with other vegetables is like a tonic to me.

Meat, fruit,or bread doesn't,they are more of a long term type nourishment, but not the immediate sense of helping my body recover from anything as fast as the items I mentioned

Do you have something that you eat or drink you eat that gives you this instant awareness of helping your bodies needs, and you feel it immediately nourishing you?.

I have just started juicing and the effect was almost immediate....I felt like my body was having a power surge.

The fist one that I drank contained....

Apples
Broccoli
Celery
Ginger
Lime
Spinach
Carrot
Courgettes
Cucumber
Blueberries

I'm trying out lots of different juices as well as normal food, but the juices are definitely making me feel great.

Hi Rick,

When I'm run down I try and get venison from my local butchers. I can feel it nourishing my body as soon as I eat it. And also:

Chickpeas
Any sort of beans and lentils
Sprouted beans, lentils and chickpeas
Avocado
Fish
Onions
Fresh peas
Beetroot

I don't juice because I'm a lazy git and cleaning out a juicer all the time is too much bother :emb:

Yes, cleaning the juicer after is a right pain.

A blender and food processor is a must to have, if you want to eat raw uncooked foods in my opinion.

Eating a salad - which I enjoy btw, so long as there are some fattening things included, like coleslaw - makes me feel sort of light headed. What's that about?

Juiced beetroot is a superfood (anti-carcinogenic) and I love carrots & apples juiced together on the rare ocassion I can be bothered with the juicer. I bunch up a bit of basil & toss that into the blades too for good measure.

This is an interesting thread! I don't actually think I've thought about it much! When I'm recovering from illness I usually crave toast and Marmite for some reason! :D :emb:

Foods which I feel do me "good" include: sprouted seeds (such as alfalfa and broccoli), salad in general, smoothies, porridge and fish. Also soups, such as lentil or watercress.

Foods which I feel do me "bad" and make me feel pretty terrible include most "beige" things, such as pork pies and sausage rolls. I feel like there's nothing in them that's remotely "alive". Having said that, I do have them now and then, although the last time I had a pork pie I felt quite sick afterwards!

A salad on its own would make me feel a bit light-headed too, gilly - probably not enough calories. I always put some protein and carbs in with a salad - kind of balances it out and gives it more substance! :)

Melon and Cucumber are about the only foods that don't give me indigestion :/

My diet has been so bad for so long, I can't honestly answer the question :emb:

I do like tomatoes, lettuce, things like that, but I don't eat them nearly enough.

Some big dietary changes are in order I think :chuckle:

Here's a typical day for me;

Breakfast: Two pieces of buttered toast with strawberry jam.
Snack: Banana.
Lunch: Tin of soup with 1 piece of bread.
Dinner: Tin of Beans & Sausages with a frozen grill chicken thing. Or Beans and 2 boiled eggs.
Snack: Cereal, or mug of milk, or milk and toast.

There's an absence of fruit and veg really. I'll have to sort that out. I should eat more "real" food.

Any food with LOTS of fresh herbs and spices... I mean fresh like cut five minutes easrlier from garden outside. It's nearly magical how good that stuff tastes and how it seems to take hunger away. :D

Any food coocked on open fire outside. I know no reasons, but cooking anything on open fire outside the house has a positive effect on the outcome.

Fresh food (as hex said). In particular, home-made watercress soup, simple, cheap, and tasty.

G'day Gilly.

Slicing / dicing up an avocado and adding it to a salad is great. Avocado contains essential fats in it, so it'll meet the "fattening things included" aspect for you. ;)

Here's a dressing/sauce I came up with once which is great to use in a coleslaw or on a salad (cocnut cream for the "fattening things included" ;) ) ...

INGREDIENTS
Coconut cream 1 small can, 140 ml.
Pineapple A one-inch ring cored & peeled.
Spring onion 1
Mint leaf 1 large
Parsley 2 sprigs
Garlic 1 clove
Pepper
Herb or sea salt
Nutmeg 1 level tsp
Chilli flakes ¼ - ½ tsp to taste.
Squeeze of lemon.

METHOD
Mix in blender.

Variation:
Be creative.

Serving suggestions:
Anywhere you like to use mayonnaise, or as a dipping sauce for fritters. Excellent stirred through potato salad or coleslaw.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Water. Nothing like drinking water in the cup of my hand from a freshwater stream. It felt like there was some essence in there I have been missing, unlike any other water.

And a salad made with leafy greens, red onions, beets, eggs, string beans, broccoli, tuna, tomato, carrots and a sprinkle of feta cheese. I love eating fruits like kiwi and red grapefruit, a refreshing green papaya salad called Som Tam and I love snacking on berries and walnuts.
