I heard about this today when I was listening to the football. The BBC have a trailer for the breakfast show where they 'hilariously' discuss this report. As I mentioned here:
For those who have already embraced a meat-free diet these findings may not be of much significance - you're already doing your bit - but those out there who are stuck in the 'must have meat every day' rut may soon start running around like (pardon the saying) headless chickens out of fear of what is ahead: a potential meat-free future.
This week leading water scientists have issued one of the most doomsday-like warnings yet about global food supplies, saying that the world's population may have to switch almost fully to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid shortages.
By 2050 the world population is predicted to have reached 9 billion and in order to feed the additional 2 billion people expected to be alive then, humans may need to cut their protein consumption from animal-based products to 5% of their total daily calories. It is currently 20%.
"There will not be enough water available on current crop-lands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations," the report by Malik Falkenmark and colleagues at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) said.
The forecasted water shortage in the near future can be combated by adopting a vegetarian diet; one third of the world's farmland is used to grow crops to feed animals, and five to ten times more water is used to produce animal protein-rich food compared to that of a vegetable diet .
Perhaps it is time for western countries to adopt a 'selective meat eating' way of life (eating only sustainably sourced meat and only once or twice a week at most) - or just ditch it all together and join the vegetarians of the world.

Of course the wingnuts make no mention of the decline, the VERY sharp decline that is predicted afterwards as millions of old people die off.
The fertility rates are at record lows throughout Russia,Europe and Japan.
Its a 'problem' that has already been taken care of.
There's more than enough food to go around, we throw away enough food in the west to feed the friggin world, I dunno what all the hysteria is all about tbh. Just the usual stupid crap.
Part of me finds it hard to imagine that meat eating will be phased out completely, considering all the vested interests that would wish for it to continue. On the other hand, one of the primary reasons beef in particular is so plentiful is subsidisation, so it never takes that much effort to change the way the 'economy' and food production functions quite dramatically.
Also, I've seen it with my own eyes in the Forum from the Future presentations, where all the character can buy in the supermarket is potatoes and peas, and she states that people only eat meat on special occasions.

Such a collapse “is going to happen sooner or later,” Borrelli believes. A prepper is an “all-encompassing term that defines someone whether they prepare for a disaster or whether they’re interested in sustainable living,” said Tom Martin, founder of the American Preppers Network. I wouldn't really have a problem eating meat once or twice a week. I already do that now anyway. My concern though, is the type of fruits and vegetables available. Over the years I've been seeing people supporting a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, who ended out having some kind of link to the global super conglomerate Monsanto.
Both Clintons were supported by Monsanto, and passed bills supporting GMO food production and sales. My concern of what the theme of the thread goes over, is whether or not this is some attempt at getting early generations to accept super agricultural conglomerates as a way of life. Currently, the lab test results on GMO foods have been less than pleasing. Lab rats were developing diseases, cancers, and infertility. It's thought that GMO pollen may be the chief cause of CCD (Colony collapse disorder) in honey bees as well. If this change were aimed at organic fruits and vegetables, that would be completely different. As of right now, I don't know what the official motivation may be. I think it would be prudent to keep an eye on anything related to this topic. Thanks for sharing, WUB.

I think wars can be about any commodity...oil, opium (afghanistan), minerals, whatever...and of course water is one.
The push is on to make water (and food) appear to be a scarce resource...but given our current level of technology, and ability to produce food with less and less water... its lies. Its about money and control on many levels.

I think it's both strongly linked to the worldwide acceptance of GMO, and also just ties in with the general theme of creating a neo-feudal society in which there are masters and slaves and no middle-class. There will still be some form of meat production because I'm damned sure that Prince Charles won't be giving up sirloin steak any time soon, no matter how much he might advocate it for the rest of us. We just either won't be available to afford it, or won't be able to get access to it, or both.

You're right, they are indeed heavily involved with factory livestock farming that utilizes the hormones and vaccines. My guess is they might know about what you've gone over here. It might be more financially beneficial for them to focus more on GMO crops, since they can patent them. They can't exactly patent livestock, and hormones/vaccines aren't as potentially lucrative.

I agree WUB. It creates a dependency. History has shown that relying completely on any sort of crop entirely is a bad idea. My ancestors in Ireland would know a lot about that.
