As for the hardware its certainly no better imho than many other PC's, in fact Dell's Alienware brand are probably some of the best designed stuff I've seen, that and XPS too.
The macs are also of much lower spec than PC's, only mid range graphics cards for example.

They're really for people daft enough to fork out a four figure sum for posting on facebook.

As for OS's I reckon Windows XP was the pinnacle of what microshaft ever did.

I've never had any issues with software on a Mac like Andy says but I suppose it depends whatever you need it for.
I think for a while, especially in my industry Macs were seen as an industry standard. Now PCs are easily as good & powerful.
With a Mac you're paying a lot for the brand, so I reckon it's better to get a higher spec PC for the same price....
I tried out Linux a couple of times last year since I got shafted with a version of Windows. It's ok, easy to use, & free... but as I as booting it from a pen drive it wasn't very stable & every time I booted up it didn't remember my last session which proved quite tedious. The other problem with it is if you're after software, there isn't much that will work on Linux as well as PC & Mac, and you have to start writing your own code and stuff.... basically, fuck that!
However, the new Macs which are just a screen are mint. You can run multiple programs on it which are very processor intensive & it just purrs away. If I could afford one, I'd have it!

I did like the look of those all-in-one Macs, as I haven't had a desktop machine in years due to the space that they take up. I'll have to give it and the Alienware PC some thought and see which better suits what I need.

Alienware are doing the X51 with a base model thats fairly decent at the mo, small too.

Those are desktops but very small, size of an xbox and use reduced power, around 300W.

Lots of people want laptops nowadays but they're just not cut out for gaming unless you fork out some serious money.
I have an alienware m17xr4 laptop myself but it was 2 and a half grand :/

The cheapest x51 desktop there at 600 quid is comparable to my laptop if not slightly more powerful when it comes to gaming.
The key thing to remember about laptops is that the same cpu and model numbers are much lower in power than their desktop models and as such much slower.
