Sincere question:

The bathroom is a moist place, usually a warm, moist place; even if for only a bit each day. What about continued absorption and expansion? Is this only a temporary fix, even if for a few years?

No offense intended. In my home state, foam is used for quickie body fills, but fails after a few months to a few years because of the very humid environment. I have no knowledge of its reaction where I now live, in a typically dry environment.

EDIT: P.S. I am in no way, shape or form a bodyman.....erm bodyperson, and have no experience as such, but am only repeating what the bodymen at my ex-shop have said and what I've seen only in a certain, sub-tropical, righteously humid environment. YOU are, of course, most familiar with your native environment.

Yes, foam is a temporary solution for a job like fixing Ab's basin to his bathroom wall. But as he's renting his gaff (he mentioned a landlord), its permanent enough for his needs. It'll hold that basin in place for a few years.

Personaly I would use tek seal. Pull out the basin only a mm or 2 , then put a nice bead of tek seal mastic between the edge of the basin and the wall. Then press the basin back to the wall, and leave to set.

Thanks gris. I think this is actually the issue. Am going to try and remove some of the build up of paint on the arms to find out for sure, but whatever was holding it in place there before, has obviously come loose or rusted away.

There are holes in the basin to attach it to the wall, but it seems as though these were never used in the first place.

I impressed by all you peeps with your knowledge of DIY! I'm rubbish at it, and my OH is only marginally better, bless him! I'm afraid when faced with household jobs such as this we generally have to "get a man in" (so to speak!).

Step one... pull washbasin off wall. Step two...cover back of wash basin with super glue or gorilla glue (be careful not to get it on your fingers as you will stick to anything, including yourself, for days if not weeks). Step three...put wash basin back on wall. Step four...duck tape around edges and around basin to keep attached to wall. There is nothing that super glue and duck tape cannot fix!

I really have no idea, but the above is how I would go about it :D

Seriously, the landlord is the one that should fix it. He would get in big trouble if the basin fell off and hit your foot, for example.

This is why he is a landlord, he has GOT to fix his property so it is fit for you to live in. He HAS to fix it!

So...I had a man in about the basin. And a very nice man he was, too.

He confirmed that the arms are sound, as is the wall and that this is just something that may happen over time. He advised re-tiling the splashback and re-applying sealant which should resolve the issue.

He was surprised that I actually still had such an old suite, so I agreed, it's been there for fifty plus years, so should be fine in the long-run.

So this is what I'll do, when I have the cash for tiles. Thanks to all for your advice! :up:
