And are blue jeans very popular for men,or are casual pants the norm, and for the ladies are dresses more popular to wear than pants.

The majority of women here wear pant's. you really don't see many in a dress even in a office environment,is this some kind of change in societies mentality and because of the fact the classic roles of gender have bridged a gap in recent years or has it?

Hi Rick, I'm not sure where you live, but I have a few thoughts on this one.

Jeans are very popular for men and women in the UK for casual wear, but I guess long tops, dresses and leggings are also very popular with women as this is pretty comfy get-up.

I think there are a few reasons why women might not wear dresses as much as they used to and these are my thoughts.

Dresses can be kind of annoying if you're not wearing leggings with them. If they are knee length or above you have to be constantly mindful of how you are sitting etc. Otherwise you are going to be flashing too much leg and people might see your knickers :O I am a grown woman and I know men will notice this sort of thing and most of them will even be looking out for it, who wants to have to think about that all the time?

Also, dresses invariably show more leg than trousers do. At work gender and a womans legs should not even be a factor. It is all about your capability to do a job, so trousers are probably more practical (again, it's the sitting thing and potentially giving people an eye-full).

Dresses are also a bit flouncy and some of them flap around, ride up, get caught on things more easily etc, so again, trousers are often more practical. Then there is the issue of your legs getting cold and that even happens in tights.

Last of all you have to constantly have legs hair free if you wear dresses. I speak as a lady who waxes my legs. It's great when you've just had it done, but you have to let the hairs grow long enough to wax them again! So, you will probably be wearing trousers when it's coming up to waxing time!

I do like to wear dresses though, but they are not always the most practical attire and I think that's the key to why women have chosen to wear trousers more often.

Thanks for that good reply my friend

It's a pleasure Rick. I suspect that if skirts and dresses were more practical than trousers/jeans both men and women would be wearing them most of the time :)

Don't listen to her, Rick. Gents wear top hats and sensible shoes whereas the ladies must have a skirt/frock that ends just below the knee. We let them show their ankles since women's lib and all that.

What? What? :D

Where are you Rick? Most people just wear the same stuff as the rest of the world these days. I have nothing in my wardrobe with a Union Jack on it, as this would make me vomit and quite possibly burst into flames.

It depends on where you are in the UK.
Best to take a few outfits if you intend to travel around and not feel out of place with the locals.

I just wear jeans and T-shirts. Footwear is usually trainies (sneakers). In winter I'll wear jeans and a T-shirt, but I'll throw on a jumper/sweater as well.

I'd like to see a return of smart atire, like in the old days. I hardly ever dress "smartly". Just casually 99.99% of the time. I'd quite like to dress like a Victorian gentleman, and have a hat and cane (the cane will really be a cleverly disguised sword for seeing off brigands and robbers of course) :D I'd love a pocket watch on a chain :chuckle:

Ninja slippers are a must rick!
I call them ninja slippers anyway, they are just flimsy slip on shoes made of canvas with very thin flat heel and look like they would last about 2 heavily pissed up weekends on the town.
