Imho, the software suite that comes free with computer music magazine is one of the best free packages.

Then a reasonable condensor mic and as sb says a powered pre-amp and your away.

I ve never tried software djing so can t say for certain.... But Traktor is apparently the business... Don t think it s free but i m sure a crack is out there on torrent.

I had a go on Mixx a while ago but didn't put much effort into using it & ended up forgetting about it!
I seem to remember it works in a weird way that turns your audio input into an output so you have 2 outputs.... I might be getting confused with something else though!
