I certainly hope so. :crossed:

Next step for me is to get some recording software for my pc and start making more deomos to add to the website.

I won't be planning my new life in South America just yet. :)

Have you decided which software you're going for?
You might also want to consider getting a decent pre-amp.

The fella recommended Audacity software & this equipment

sites.google.com/a/vomasterclass.com/home-recording-kit/

£365 :O

Anyone wanna buy a kidney?

Not sure about Audacity... but pretty much any software you want is available on torrent. I got a good copy of Cubase 5 which is more than enough for this sort of stuff.... plus, if you're needing to sync voice to video it's ideal.
Condenser mic, stand & pop shield... definitely... but shop around.
I'm a bit dubious about a USB pre-amp.... but have a look at some reviews in Sound on Sound online mag to see if it's worth it. Might be crap.
You shouldn't have too much problem with room echo unless you're being loud... you can counter reverberation by having the mic in strategic positions... not in the centre of a room & away from walls & windows. If your room is square or the dimensions are multiple integers (eg. 2 x 4 x 8) you may encounter problems with phase cancellation which can make things sound really poor.
How much to spend on headphones....? they're only for monitoring your voice but obviously they need to keep the sound isolated to stop spillage back into the mic.

I reckon you could slash that bill & only have to rent your arse out for a bit instead of organ donation.

If you just want to track Audio, Audacity is great and iirc, free ;)

Behringer do some cheapish and very usable condensors. Need a power source ofc. I use a Tascam US-144 for power and pre. It's not perfect but it does the job and you can get em for £20 now.

Have to say that £365 for that stuff is a rip off. I have a C1 like that one. Spent about 25 on it with pop sheild, stand, case and mount ;)

Thanks for the advices.

Thankfully, as part of the training cost I get tech support from the fella for the next year. If what I put together is a bit ropey he can rejig it about and polish it up before I submit it. For that reason I might go down the cheap but functional route for now.

Saving cash and wear and tear on my bottom parts is the order of the day.

Attention those in the know. Or rather SB and Knobs. :)

USB microphone & stand for £60.

Negates the need for a pre-amp?

Not top of the range stuff but seem ok to me. Not sure whether I actually need a condenser mic so I'm hoping that the one above would do the job.

I would be skeptical of headphones that cost £39 only because my Dad worked for a sound company.

As in you think they're too cheap?

A top of the range pair would be cool but unnecessary at the moment. Serviceable is the order of the day.

:)

Check headphones out first for spillage. Any sound re-recorded into the mic from the headphones will sound nasty!
Not sure about the USB mic... it probably does the trick.... it may be technically sortable after but think about stuff that shouldn't be polished. ;) The source of a recording is the most important aspect... if you're doing this professionally I highly recommend to read up on reviews of it... esp as kmu points out you can get pretty cheap normal pre-amps working out about the same price.
A dynamic mic might also suit your purpose... I often use them recording vocals.

My tastes are a tad too old school for usb mics. That said, I have read good reviews on some. It may suit you.

Personally I'd say stick with a condensor but yer man sb is way more clued up than me. If he vouches for dynamics, who am I to argue?
