Are you a long suffering type individual, dealing with things personal and in public,or do you have a short fuse in your own opinion, and don't tolerate the things, situations,or people that get on your nerves, and mostly avoid, escape, or just can't help but to react in some way to these things?

Hmmm...I think I'm generally a tolerant person...or rather a patient person...sometimes :D I can be just as impatient as I can patient.
There are workmen in the house now, they've been installing a new bathroom now for almost three weeks, and they still haven't finished. In fact someone came out to inspect the work and it was deemed a rush job with loads of mistakes, so here they are...still. I'm tolerating these clowns very well actually. They're stupid, lazy, inconsiderate...they don't know there arse from there elbows to be perfectly honest. I can't wait until they finish the job and piss off :hedbut:

:D

It's amazing how tolerant people can be actually...maybe we should be less tolerant about certain things, if we were we wouldn't be in the mess we're in with the control system, etc.

People can learn to put up with all kinds of crap...we've become quite adept at it.

I have quite a wry sense of humour about things that piss me off.
Whenever I encounter something that does my head in a bit, or people or situations that annoy me, I have a wry smile to myself. I take the piss out of it all :)
I smile knowingly, slag off the object of my irritation, I kind of have a running dialogue about it to myself, all the while smlling wryly...it's how I cope with the absurdity and stupidiy and bizzarrness of this strange life. What's it all about? What madness is this that we find ourselves living in? :chuckle:

Life...what the fuck is it?! :dunno:

I can sometimes be very tolerant and put up with a lot, but I'm also prone to have a bit of a short fuse. It depends on who, what, why, where and how I'm feeling. And sometimes I'll engage in avoidance and sometimes I'll go for a confrontation.

I agree with irrepressible that we can be too tolerant of certain things, particularly when it comes to authority and being pissed around. People put up with too much shit, and all too often I'm one of them.

Is it natural for us to tolerate things?

I think part of the problem is that many of us don't realise that we are tolerating something. You know, "it's just the way things are innit?" If you know what I mean, I don't think I've explained well :chuckle: Actually I think I've lost what the hell it is I'm trying to say there :emb:

How far will it go? How much can we tolerate before breaking point?

I can tolerate to a extreme most situations that are nerve racking or irritating, but people who get on my nerves in public or private I have to escape from them, and don't even try to deal with it to even understand them it's,just my avoidance mentality is to strong

I think it makes perfect sense. All the majority of people really want is a nice life. Be with their family, kids, do what they enjoy doing, watch a bit of telly, go for a bike ride, engage in a bit of slap'n'tickle - whatever. And people are very adaptable. People will put up with bullshit to avoid the hassle so they can just put their feet up and watch the football. And tolerating things becomes normal. You just get used to it. And if it becomes normal, you stop noticing it and get on with it. And you're a bit surprised whren anyone says hang on a minute..... And liable to think they're just making a fuss.

I would say I am extremely tolerant but not a walk over - I like to take everything and everyone on their merits - If I can see the sense in something or if I feel I am being considered and respected then my tolerance is almost infinite - If however I feel people or situations are taking the piss or are senselessly harming myself or others then my tolerance will wear out pretty quick.

Yes no one is tolerant completely of anything, and yes some things are more intolerable to certain individuals than others, religions don't bother me,because I just don't feel that I can judge anyone about their belief.

And there is no easy answer to religious intolerance,so to be intolerant of it would seem to me like just banging your head against a wall and pointless,in my opinion a individuals religious belief is a sacred thing to them personally, so that's another main reason I don't really feel any need to be intolerant of religions I don't have that right

I'm fairly tolerant...but I don't suffer fools gladly.

I live by some very black and white rules regarding other people and my attention. I don't become embroiled in other people's emotional dramas and I will not be taken the piss out of. It does work but often means I don't have many I could call "friend".

In this world of facebook updates and twitter, which I have nothing to do with, I often feel like I stand alone. See, they don't like it up 'em. Similarly, "they" don't like not being able to see what I'm up to every second of the day, it appears.

Meh.

I tend to avoid quite a bit as well...
I live in my own little world :D
I walk around in my own little bubble really, and block out most things when I'm out and about. Maybe that's part of why I feel "the emptiness".

Each to his or her own...just don't bother me with it :chuckle:

The older I get, generally the less tolerant I have become.
Some people thrive off the patience and hesitancy of others to react and call them out.
I'm much more likely to openly challenge and call bullshit now.

I'll make generous allowances for human fallibilities but when someone designs to play upon someone else's emotions or trample on their rights. They be told to "get to fuck" in a heartbeat.
Life's too short to spend accommodating that crap.

A bubble is a good thing, many don't feel secure in their environment, you should be thankful that this bubble is around you,and there is a reason for your protection and good surroundings, you have created it for yourself.

The one thing I see that throws people for a loop,is when they have been smug and secure, and take things for granted, then they get sick or injured, and their world comes crashing down,

And with many people who were asses to people they then realize they need help, and friends, and don't take as many things for granted anymore.

There is much to be said for being a good person, with a pleasant and open mentality, and a friendly nature, because when you have been a hard ass or mean and self serving, and then need help people are not as open attending to your needs

I hate conflict and I do my best not to get into any alterations and to be accommodating. I hate making waves, but this means that I end up erupting like a volcano. I am not very good at being assertive.

I am the same exact way. I hate conflict. Often, if I feel irritated by someone or something they did, I bottle it up. I'm far too passive and often get fucked over as a result. I feel like life is testing my patience, sometimes.

Meh. I'm very All Or Nothing. I'm very tolerant of some things (the child and a young horse, for example); but incredibly intolerant of other things (faulty purchases, lateness - I might wait for someone for 3 minutes, and then I'M GONE! - rudeness, etc). I'm like this with everything.
