I was talking to this guy, and he said when he lost his job the neighbors weren't as friendly and open to him,and he really experienced what it meant to have fair weather friends,to note, the guy I talked to had a home,wife,and grown children,and he was a supervisor at a company,so he wasn't the transient type but got fired or laid off I call it the same thing.

Has anyone here experienced a change in your associates nature if you all of a sudden experience financial problems, or job loss and realize what the expression fair weather friends mean?

Oh yea also illness have you felt abandoned from something you went through and people didn't act the same toward you

i had problem with moochers before. come in and eat and smoke and drink all my stuff, stay as long as possible until it runs out then they left. i didnt care really, but you realize its getting taken advantage of when they dont talk to you unless you have shit so it doesnt happen anymore.

Its never happened to me, I'm just lucky though and I guess never been unemployed for long even when I was a nipper, I always did something or other to make a bob or two.

It does happen though, gold-diggers getting fed up quickly with those who don't provide anymore.
Its just whoring at the end of the day. I do remember a mate of mine whose missus left him after he was on the dole for 2 months.
She was a total bitch tbh, never liked her, I dunno what he saw in her....prolly her legs I reckon
All she would ever talk about was coronation st, eastenders and what she bought at the metro centre

Something unspeakable happened to my leg earlier this year which put me in plaster for a good while.
When the basic healing was done I felt ready to get back to work. Quickly I found that people I'd been subbing for had decided that my injuries would mean that I wouldn't be able to work to the capacity I had before. They therefore gave me less and less work.
Ultimately with the main one, that led to me um shall I say airing my grievance? Which led to us going our separate ways.....

To be fair though, it seems that ultimately these people were right. In no way can I do what I did before the accident

Rick, I have certainly found out who my friends were after a run of misfortune that included a job loss and a long period of ill health. I think it partially has something to do with people being a bit superstitious. It's almost as if people think that another person’s unfortunate circumstances will somehow affect them. I really do think that people's minds often operate in this way. Of course, in psychology it is known as 'magical thinking', which is a also found in OCD, psychosis and personality disorders and so this proves my theory that none of us are sane.

Then there are just wankers who are thoughtless, don't care and are not very nice. I also think that lots of people are repulsed by weakness in others because it reminds them of how fluid life is, and how it could easily be them getting the shitty end of the stick.

No never. I was out of work when i left college and then I have worked most of the time though. Right now my job is mostly in construction and so I have spells of unemployment which can be tough but I am not usually unemployed for long. My wife is loyal and i don `t really have friends here so nobody to abandon me.
