Objectify them as complimenting them about their body,or expressing your true feelings if something bothers you about them physically, it seems to me in my opinion many couples have really let themselves go, and I wonder if their partner just accepts this in silence,or does it create difficulties behind close doors.

And for those who don't have a regular partner as myself at the moment, please express your opinion ,if you had a mate would you objectify them and either compliment or criticize their body,or just let them be.

If your mate is humble and living a healthy lifestyle complementing them is good.

On the other hand cigarettes, alcohol, fast food causing obesity should be criticized.

Is there anything more important to a relationship then looking after your partners health?

Your 100 per cent right, the concern about the health of your partner is true love, even if it causes anguish and a fight.

As a general rule I only compliment mrs oioioi, couple of reasons; my grandma always said if you've got nowt nice to say say nowt, and being female society has made her more self conscious than I ever could so I doubt I'd be telling her anything she hasn't already fretted over in the bathroom a million times already!

And I like a quiet life!

This thread's making me a bit horny for some reason :O :D

I don't know...none of us are perfect, we're all very similar when it comes down to it...bodywise and that. I think we mostly self criticise...everyone has something about their body that they don't like, or wish was...I don't know...better? :dunno:

I think you should be honest with them regardless of it offends them or hurts their feelings from the start of any relationship. If you can't be honest, what's the point?

I am not currently with or have a regular partner...but when I have, I have been brutally honest with them. I find that it is only when they are uncomfortable with themselves or not willing to face their own faults that they take offense. Those that are comfortable with who they are, and know they are not perfect, usual take it as your opinion and don't have a problem with it...and also are not afraid of being honest with you either.

I'm not convinced that giving your partner a compliment or being concerned that they have let themselves go is 'objectifying' them.

It's a really difficult question - I hate criticising people & especially hate criticising my OH, so I tend not to do it. Sometimes, though, you do need to be honest, especially if they're doing something to themselves which will ultimately damage their health. For example, for him own sake I wish my OH didn't smoke - but I don't go on at him about it; there's no point in that. You have to frame the criticism as nicely as possible! You should definitely say many, many more nice things than not-so-nice things - and if they refuse to take what you have to say on-board, you have to eventually let it go and accept them as they are. And I have many faults of my own I need to look at before I start correcting other people's! :D

I agree a person needs to feel free to be brutally honest with their partner, and to be able to communicate this honesty in a way that is took with a positive input, and a sense of corrective criticism toward each other intending to improve and help, not belittle or hurt.

If you can't do this with each other without bad feelings, there may be some compatibility issues to work on.

Smoking is really bad,but for some people it's the most pleasurable thing in their life and very relaxing for them, most of the time people who smoke know this, the bad and the good, time is the enemy and eventually smoking catches up to you in most situations.

You seem to me a very kind soul, and very tolerant of people ,and your probably a very good and loyal friend to have, and hesitant to criticize I understand that.
