Couldn't find it anywhere, so hunted all over the house thinking I might have to cancel it and had maybe left it in a shop

Found it in the cats carry box along with 2 teaspoons , an envelope and a sock!

She is stealing things .......is this normal cat behavouir? None of my other cats were thieves

I had a cat that would carry off rings if you laid them down, I think it's the shiny things they like to grasp and play with, the other items that your cat grabbed is highly unusual in my opinion, the fact they were moved and placed by the cat somewhere is very odd

Sounds like the cat is planning her escape the tea spoons are probably for digging the tunnel and one can never have enough socks obviously the CC is to fund her traveling as she heads for the border not sure about the envelope maybe that's plan B build a paper airplane. :pop:

I have a cat, that because of him, we had to box in the undersides of any beds in the house (or take them off the frame and set them on the floor). He likes to steal anything he can get a hold of, rip open the bottom of box-springs, and stash what he steals in them... we once left out his wet food (we only give him half at a time) to warm up to room temperature because he don't like it cold, he picked it up in his mouth and tried to carry it off, I kid you not.

Yes, for some cats, it is common... they have hoarding issues that doesn't stick to their own stuff, it includes anything found in the house (or outside if they get to go out).

Also had a cat years ago who liked to steal pencils and pens, straws and basically anything in that shape...then would drop them in front of the furniture and spend 10+ minutes pushing the items under the couch. This cat also growled at the door and at the phone when it rang...so he was just odd all around.

Now teach you cat to steal money and pick-pocket and turn him loose in the public.
I came into this world kicking and screaming while covered in someone elses blood
and I have no problem with going out the same way

Why does my cat steal things (anything he can move!)? ~ Katelyn M.

This may be a learned behaviour. If your cat receives attention from you for stealing things - even if it's negative attention - it may teach him to continue doing it. Another possibility is that it could be a form of play. If you think this is the case, try providing something else for your cat to do, like pet puzzles, toys to play with or even better, establish a playtime routine. This might alleviate any boredom that causes him to get into trouble.

Stealing may also be related to texture. Your cat may enjoy the mouth feel of different textures, and be looking for stimulation in an environment that doesn't provide enough enrichment.

Also, your cat may be experiencing stress and is stealing things that help him calm down. Behaviours like wool-sucking have been observed in some cats and are suspected to calm them down.

If your cat is taking things and moving them around - like socks - it could be a predatory instinct, where the sock is being used as a replacement for prey that has been killed and brought back.

If you believe that this behaviour is a compulsion for your cat you should seek the help of a cat behaviourist or a veterinarian.

Sounds like your cat is a reincarnated conspiracy theorist, that believes your a ten foot cat eating lizard. Cats pick up on shit and has probably started prepping for the end times. Has your cat been watching any movies like The Road or The Book of Eli?

:chuckle: No, he (the first cat I mentioned) wont watch scary movies... he's afraid of everything. If a stranger so much as pulls into the yard, he glances out the window to make sure they really came in the yard and then runs and hides; typically crawling up under the bedding from the floor so he is under both sheets, the comforter and the pillow(s)...he then remains there until the stranger leaves.

As it's just one sock maybe it's an improvised swag sack. I had a windolope in mind if it has your details on it purrrhaps she intends to steal your identity keep an eye on your utility bills.

Dawn I do believe them being frightened of everything is better than the polar opposite.

The ex had a female cat who, when we tried to introduce her to my cat (I was holding him and walking into the room she was in), she attacked without even seeing him. Tore my moms leg open, scratched the hell out of my leg and dang near took the door off it's hinges. Mine panicked and got my shoulders and arm trying to get away from the she-devil tearing the shit out of the room below.

Perhaps the cat is unwell Dawn and is trying to send a sample of its poo poo off in the envelope for testing.

See if you can access its records.

She might just think of them as chewy toys. Has she got any 'toys' to play with?

My dogs pinch things like socks - they'll pull 'em right off you if you let them. That might just be because they like smelly things though.

From my experience female cat's take a more one owner mentality, other than the male who is a social butterfly most times, my female will come around others if I'm there, but she will run off from people when I'm not around, the Siamese cat at times is a little meany, and has to have extra love young, and not as much rough play when a kitten.
I mentioned the Siamese because many times black cat's have a lot of the Siamese blood line in them
