Pope Francis has said he wants a "poor church for the poor."

So how will making the catholic church poor be achieved?

Is Pope Francis hinting that all the wealth the catholic church owns will become worthless in some way or does the pope intend to give the wealth away.

I can't see the church coming to the rescue of the EU and bankers as that would be helping the money changers which would be against christian values.

Wasn't it the money changers who so enraged Jesus so much that he became violent and knocked over their tables.

Is the message more cryptic and the popes means spiritually poor,in that case he means give everything to the bankers. :P

I think he just means a small department that gives some small extra amounts to stuff like st.vincent de paul etc.

17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. ..
The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you.. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables so that, they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!

The Lesson of the widow's mite is presented in the Synoptic Gospels (Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4), in which Jesus is teaching at the Temple in Jerusalem. The Gospel of Mark specifies that two mites (Greek lepta) are together worth a quadrans, the smallest Roman coin. A lepton was the smallest and least valuable coin in circulation in Palestine, worth about six minutes of an average daily wage...

In the story, a widow donates two small coins, while wealthy people donate much more..Jesus explains to his disciples that the small sacrifices of the poor mean more to G than the extravagant, but proportionately lesser, donations of the rich..

It means he's in touch with the times. He's going to bankrupt the church with madcap financial schemes and demand a bailout from the Catholic community because the Vatican is too big to fail. So the church will be briefly poor quickly followed by everybody else.

And what if he means it?

Unlikely as it is, it seems you have thrown that possibility out.

What if, in the unlikely event, that Christians fianlly do what is asked of them, they all share whatever they have?

Theoretically how would you respond?

I know how the wingtard xtian right would responed.

They would shoot the pope and bomb the charitable.

I kow cos I read this (more or ;ess)

Check out Catholicansers.com and fisheaters.com

They would send xtians back in under the earth to the catacombs.

Fortunately we have our open mimded agnostics, realist atheists and loving spiritual brothers to protect us

No wait.

they just said that was our problem.

Evening good sir.
How goes it?

If only the church would adopt this stance.
This atheist would enthusiastically applaud their efforts.

YOu confirm my concviction that atheists are often more Christ like than Christians.

But perha[s that is the point. Doctors treat the sick. not the healthy.

Perhaps one day, the words in Luke and john will be taken more as an indication of what Christ said about wealth/poverty than the crap that passes for religiousness or whatever those fucknut aggressive cunts say.

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:32-34)

It's good to see the Archbishop of Cyprus trying to help the people there. This is how it should be.

I'm hearing you. I won't give up believing there are right-minded people with genuine intentions in every role in society. If there weren't, there'd be no room for hope. There might come to light, some nasty ulterior motive for this generosity, but there hasn't to my knowledge up to now. So from what I see, this is just a case of good, caring people, partaking in an act of utter kindness, which is in line with what the church is supposed to be all about. But kindness and care are rare things to witness. I hope very sincerely that I'm not being naive.
