We have a expression..........

tighter'n dicks hatband ................................................

this expression relates to how tense a person is, or up tight or cheap, normally we feel this way about northerners cause they seem always stressed and in a hurry, and stereotyped, rude in general,........in turn.......... they think Texans are stupid, also a stereotype I have heard

UK people seem to be kind of tense I may be wrong but the expression came to mind


am I right in a way?

Never heard that expression before.

I think the tension level varies from one person to the next and depends on circumstances, though it wouldn't surprise me if it rises generally in times of economic struggle.

I didn't know Texans were stereotyped as being stupid either.

Your post made me vaguely recall lyrics to some song (someone will remember what it is) "You've got a ten gallon hat on a two pint head". :D

Gilly never heard much about the English at all, the only thing we had was that department store show of your's and old Sherlock Holmes movies, and I thought Englishmen ran around saying .PiP PIP TALLY HO, backward yet true

The Irish stereotype was a hard working, hot tempered, heavy drinking type guy, the women are thought of as really hot, maybe cause of the red hair................I really like Irish people some of my best friend through life have been of Irish descent

My mum's Irish, and I know she's a bit like that anyway! :D

When I speak to relatives over there on the phone, they've a tendency to tell you things like, "In exactly half an hour, a week last Thursday, this time next year, it'll be our 30th wedding anniversary". :rofl:

the majority of English probably are quite tense, they have nice healthy well presented children and their conservatories to worry about, i'm scottish we're just angry :)

My eldest looks like she'll be marrying into an Irish family, on both sides!
I had THE most brilliant week working in northern Ireland in the '80's....too much to tell, suffice to say I flew out the same way as I arrived...pissed...and pretty much like that every night!
