I painted my front door yesterday and I've ballsed it up.

I was in a rush to finish, as I wanted to get it done before the working week commenced but I applied the second coat too soon and too thick and consequently got that 'crackly' effect that happens when there is too much paint.

I tried to brush it out while it was still wet, but it just started coming off in layers. So now, I have to wait for it to dry proper, sand and re-apply, unless any of you bright sparks have any helpful tips?

As an aside...I have this freaky neighour. I've reported people messing with my locks recently and I suspect him. Last night, I had removed all the locks from the door to paint it, so it was ajar but the chain on on the inside. I checked the paint a few minutes before then sat down inside when I heard the door being pushed. I know I had pushed it as close to the frame without closing as I could, so it was the chain hitting the inside of the door and pushed that alerted me to it.

I sprung up but all I caught was this freak's front door closing behind him across the hall. I ask you this: what kind of person see's a door stripped of all it's locks and thinks 'ooh...I'll have a butchers in there'? Surely, it must have occured to him that I was in here, or at least in the vicinity? I'm even more annoyed as he left two distinct marks in my paintwork where he'd pushed against the door to try and open it. I wouldn't mind, but when he left earlier we nodded at each other, so he saw me painting the bloody thing and must have known it would still be wet.

FREAK.

I'm not really sure what I'd day, tbh. "Did you touch my paint" just sounds a bit daft. I've to catch him in the act before I can tear him off a strip, really.

When I reported my locks though, the local plod did say to keep him informed if anything else happened. I might let him know about this.

If I'd heard his door closing immediately after the incident, he'd have been getting a knock and some questions right there and then.

Are you slowing down as you get older then? :coffee:

Surely he'd have had paint on his hands?

Don't sand your door, unless you relish drudgery - just put some splashes & globules of different colours on it, and turn it into a one off psychedelic masterpiece.

Invest in one of these...

...to finish it off.

Then you can charge people to come and view it.

*Edit* Oh, and I'm sure you can think of something dastardly to do with cheese wire & razor blades to sort the numpty out without having to even break into a sweat. :)
