No humanity would not change if you removed them. Most people don't have gold silver platinum or diamonds
What they do have is a soul and a spirit and a belief that any shiney things are not worth knowing
The currency of moetary exchange is not the evil in the world, .....it's how they make you are worth nothing that is problem ...as that sets off depression and 'mental health' problems

diamonds, gold, silver are valuable not just for their shininess but for their industrial applications. so it would be a bad idea to destroy them all. we couldn't drill rock. we couldn't make electronics. or at least as well as we do it now.

It's not shiney things like diamonds and gold that are commodity in this day and age it is energy......electricity and gas is where the corporations are making their millions
It's an everyday commodity....most folk can do without diamonds and gold but they NEED electricity and gas so will pay whatever the companies charge because it is a necessity

I totally agree with this. The ultimate aim of this fascist system, in my opinion, is to control human need. Any and every element of basic, fundamental human need is to be controlled centrally, and to be overseen by a handful of people. The most obvious manifestations of this are physical materials that we all need such as food, clothing, oil and electricity (it's debatable whether we really need oil, but let's not go into that). But there are many other less obvious aspects to it as well, such as entertainment, even emotional counselling. And obviously money.
Eventually the aim would be that human-beings would seek everything they need to sustain them, and have everything provided for them in order to achieve this, either by a handful of corporations, or by the state that serves the corporations – increasingly with private corporations even delivering the ‘public services – with all resultant economic activity being fed into one private central bank (the Bank for International Settlements).
So if you look at any area of basic human need you will find that it is either state-controlled or corporate-controlled, or controlled by a combination of the two. Here are a few examples:
Food – now largely controlled by incredibly powerful corporations that are exercising more and more influence over even people’s buying decisions. In America, Wal-Mart is mega-powerful, other notable companies are McDonald’s – who it is said completely control the way meat is produced in many countries – and Monsanto.
Electricity – completely controlled by a small handful of mega-corporations that can only reasonably be described as a cartel. They all raise their prices at the same time, essentially engaging in price fixing. There are supposed to be state supervisors of this, but no-one does anything. They’re now trying to make this market even more inaccessible by moving electricity policy towards nuclear energy which only a small handful of corporations will ever conceivably be able to deliver. Key corporations here include General Electric.
Oil – completely controlled by OPEC, and specifically by the so-called ‘Seven Sisters’ – Anglo-Persian Oil Company (now BP); Gulf Oil, Standard Oil of California (SoCal) and Texaco (now Chevron); Royal Dutch Shell; and Standard Oil of New Jersey (Esso) and Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) (now ExxonMobil). Nothing more to say about that, no-one could conceivably contest this.
Education – all state schools have a ‘national curriculum’ which is decided by the government. Private schools are completely inaccessible for the vast majority of people, and are arguably an even bigger psychological headfuck than the comprehensive system. Increasingly, private companies are running schools, and Michael Gove has even suggested that every state school should be run for profit by private companies:
Private companies have had an inordinate influence over higher education for quite some time, and this has only increased as the government has essentially decimated all funding. Serco have their grubby little mitts all over this one as well.
You can homeschool your child, but the state will stick its nose in where it’s not wanted or required if you do this:
For me just even having to tell the local council that you’re taking your child out of school is totally unacceptable considering that they’re there of their own volition, and there is no legal requirement for them to be there. But that is far from the only issue that homeschoolers have encountered, and the government are doing their best to make it more difficult:
We can’t have any of the snivelling proles being educated outside of the state-controlled, corporate-run education system, can we?
Water – virtually all corporate controlled now, water is very rarely delivered as a public service anywhere in the world, but huge corporations such as Bechtel, Nestle and Serco are now contriving to control the water supply even more. There will probably be water wars in the future, just as there are oil wars today.
Money – almost without exception centrally issued by private banks, with the financial regulators being owned by private banks, and the institutions that oversee the entire financial system being owned by private banks. See ‘taxation’.
Taxation – collected centrally, and ruthlessly, by central government, and fed directly into the Bank for International Settlements. You can hear this discussed here starting at roughly 1:18:00:
Medicine – pharmaceutical companies are now some of the biggest and most powerful in the world, and exercise a huge amount of power over the way that ‘healthcare’ is delivered, not to mention the way that medicine is dispensed. This is before the fact that you have to go through the state-approved and controlled education system in order to get a piece of paper that says you’re qualified to dispense this medicine. Pharmaceutical companies routinely fund academic medical research and education. Key players are Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis.
Psychological Counselling – you can pretty much see ‘medicine’ for this one, but it is also important to emphasise that psychological counselling is aimed at making people accept the existing socio-economic paradigm, at acclimating them to the current state-of-affairs that they are experiencing, not making them healthy or psychologically sound. Companies employ and use psychologists to enable them to help make their employees more malleable and accepting of their decisions within the company. If you want to work as a psychologist, this is one of the surest, and best paid, routes into the profession.
Entertainment – television, cinema and music are now all in the hands of a very small number of companies in virtually every country on the planet. The BBC is responsible for virtually all radio broadcasts in the UK. The Internet has now been virtually completely tied up by some phenomenally powerful corporations, most obviously Google. You can’t make any money writing books unless you’re on TV; you could literally invite all of the people in Britain that make a living solely from writing fiction to a party an host it in a single room. Arms manufacturers sponsor art exhibitions now. It has become incredibly difficult for anyone to make any money in creative pursuits, and thus survive, without at least compromising and making money for one of the corporations that control these industries.
There are probably many other examples that don’t instantly come to mind, but the basic outcome of this is that on a daily basis we are operating in what is often described as a ‘control grid’. I agree with this description; it is now virtually impossible to escape banking, corporate and state influence over your life. All you can realistically hope to do is minimise it, and try to engage in behaviours that help out other ethical people and perhaps make a small difference. If a lot of people did this, it would make a big difference.
The true measure of a man is not his intelligence or how high he rises in this freak establishment. The true measure of a man is this: how quickly he can respond to the needs of others and how much of himself he can give - Philip K. Dick.

No, these all have real uses firstly and secondly any problem that these materials symbolise are merely symbols, the problem is in the minds of people.
You can't enforce morality or reason, practically, morally or logically.
You are spot on about people being the real valuable assets though.

What uses do tons of gold stored in vaults have other than to support the status quo?
I don't see it being used in any fantastic technology to help mankind.

Well, what use is food in your larder?
It's a store for later use, or trade.
The fact of who owns most of the gold etc is a function of the violently enforced statist system, Central Banking Fiat and Taxation primarily, which is a function of a psychological problem a lot of people have.

It 'could' have very important uses so rep is quite right to point that out, in fairness whats at issue is value perspective.
Gold for example can be used for electronics, it also has some advanced research uses. Its not that special though, at the end of the day there are many other things we should value far more but we don't because we have a monetary system. the monetary system itself is no longer of any tangible value as it doesn't use gold as reference for fixed value.
If govts should be regulating any trade it should be on items that quite simply do not exist and trades that don't take delivery, its crap like that which ruins the standard supply/demand market system because it skews it. There is no real demand in market oil trade for example if the buyer merely intends to hold on to it and then re-sell it at a later date, the same applies to housing for example. Its just a massive pisstake of greed.

Its funny you talk of strawman arguments earlier rep but then you use food as a comparison for gold
Food is for eating, preferably before it goes off. Gold is for electronics, you can't eat gold ffs lol .
You would only store for later trade items that keep long term and accrue in value, but then again thats hardly going to happen if you have money that loses value, you are merely holding same value at best.

i'm sure I remember reading something about gold being used in circuit boards etc. in amounts that made it not 'financially viable' to retrieve it from the circuit boards when they are disposed of meaning a finite resource is being binned. Now who could possibly benefit from an increase in demand and drop in supply?

Those who have already cornered the market for a long time.

I don't get your point andyh, the commonality between gold and food is that they both have (perceived) value, they both have practical uses, you can't eat gold, but it's easier to store than food and can be traded for food.
