Hi Gillian,

I wouldn't normally send you two emails in 24 hours but I need your help. Our crew are still being held under armed guard on our ship The Arctic Sunrise. I can’t stress enough how urgent it is to get as many people as possible to email the Russian Ambassador to the UK demanding the release of our activists immediately.

Please send an urgent email to the Russian Ambassador now.

It will only take about one minute to complete and you could help secure the release of the entire crew on board the Arctic Sunrise.

Hi Gillian,

At least 15 armed Russian Coast Guards have just illegally boarded and taken over our ship the Arctic Sunrise.

They immediately seized every crew member except three people who locked themselves inside the radio room as the guards tried to break in. We had a satellite phone link to them and they were speaking to international media, trying to stay there for as long as they could.

As far as we know, everyone else is being held under armed guard.

Please send an urgent email to the Russian Ambassador in London and demand the Russian Coast Guard release our crew immediately.

The ship had been part of a peaceful protest against energy giant Gazprom which is poised to drill for the first oil to come out of the icy waters of the Arctic.Yesterday there were guns pointed at the protesters, shots fired and two other crew members were arrested as they protested Gazprom's Arctic drilling.

The Arctic Sunrise was circling Gazprom’s Prirazlomnaya platform inside international waters and outside the jurisdiction of Russian authorities, making the boarding of the ship unlawful.

Your support - right now - will make a difference to how these protesters are treated, with the eyes of the world on them they won’t be able to act with impunity. They are taking incredible risks and you can stand up for them.

OK, but what about the people who take part in things organised by Greenpeace? It seems very plausible to me that they are innocents with good intentions. I wouldn't want these folk to be imprisoned for maybe 10 years for trying to take peaceful action against something they feel passionately about.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it doesn't seem that obvious to me, because I scan a hell of a lot of news, but I'd have known nothing about it if I'd not received that email. Surely if the aim is to make Russia look like cunts to colour opinion, there needs to be a lot of publicity.

I sympathise with the pawns. Some of us aren't clever enough to go through life without being duped a few times. They don't deserve to be sacrificed for their idealism.

It's already been said but on hearing this yesterday my first thoughts were that the Greenpeace puppets are being used to make the Russians look bad. What with Russia currently seemingly being on the wrong side of Globocorps World domination plans.
