The footballer Robert Earnshaw has, inadvertently, summed this up:

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/artic...ml?ito=feeds-newsxml
This is not a normal situation, even for Tel Aviv, and it isn’t easy getting used to bombs and rockets being fired off in your direction. It’s the first time in 21 years that Tel Aviv has been attacked, I’m just unfortunate to be around when it’s happened!

Hmmm, have Israel ever attacked Palestine at any time during this period?

Israelj

Do the Palestinians have any other reason to feel riled?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakba_Day
During the 1948 Palestine War, an estimated 700,000 Palestinians were expelled or fled, and hundreds of Palestinian villages were depopulated and destroyed.

These refugees and their descendants number several million people today, divided between Jordan (2 million), Lebanon (427,057), Syria (477,700), the West Bank (788,108) and the Gaza Strip (1.1 million), with at least another quarter of a million internally displaced Palestinians in Israel. The displacement, dispossession and dispersal of the Palestinian people is known to them as an-Nakba, meaning "catastrophe" or "disaster”.

Prior to its adoption by the Palestinian nationalist movement, the "Year of the Catastrophe" among Arabs referred to 1920, when European colonial powers partitioned the Ottoman Empire into a series of separate states along lines of their own choosing.[8] The term was first used to reference the events of 1948 in the summer of that same year by the Syrian writer Constantine Zureiq in his work Macnā an-Nakba ("The Meaning of the Nakba"; published in English in 1956).

Initially, the use of the term Nakba among Palestinians was not universal. For example, many years after 1948, Palestinian refugees in Lebanon avoided and even actively resisted using the term, because it lent permanency to a situation they viewed as temporary, and they often insisted on being called "returnees." In the 1950s and 1960s, terms they used to describe the events of 1948 were more eupheumistic and included al-'ightiṣāb ("the rape"), al-'aḥdāth ("the events"), al-hijra ("the exodus"), and lammā sharnā wa-tla'nā ("when we blackened our faces and left"). Nakba narratives were avoided by the leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Lebanon in the 1970s, in favor of a narrative of revolution and renewal. Interest in the Nakba by organizations representing refugees in Lebanon surged in the 1990s due to the perception that the refugees' right of return might be negotiated away in exchange for Palestinian statehood, and the desire was to send a clear message to the international community that this right was non-negotiable. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has prompted Palestinians like Mahmoud Darwish to describe the Nakba as "an extended present that promises to continue in the future.”

A few hours in and so far it's holding.

Israeli-Gaza ceasefire holdsHostilities cease between the two sides after eight days of fighting claims more than 160 lives
A ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians appeared to be holding on Thursday after eight days of fighting in the Gaza Strip that claimed more than 160 lives.

Several rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel shortly after the ceasefire came into force late on Wednesday, according to Israeli police, but there were no casualties and no sign of an Israeli response.

Under the truce, which will be guaranteed by Egypt on the Palestinian side, Israel agreed to "stop all hostilities in the Gaza Strip by land, sea and air including incursions and targeting of individuals". In exchange it committed "all Palestinian factions" to "stop all hostilities from the Gaza Strip against Israel including rocket attacks and all attacks along the border".

Bit of History:

The guy interviews some very young men taking drugs in the park after dark, they say:
"if your brothers knew what you do what would they do?"
"behead me".
"did the availability of Tramadol increase after Hamas came to power?"
"after Hamas, because the disgust, sadness and despair we started to use it"
"do you think there will be another war?"
"we've become desensitized"
*"we don't care anymore,,, I hope there is a war where everyone will be killed, better to die than live like this"
The meanings that are the most directly practical are the ones that are sacrificed: the flavor, aroma and touch are abolished to the profit of the delusions that permanently lead sight and hearing astray.

How long do we hope the ceasefire in Gaza will last if Israel persists with it's plans for the E1 area of the West Bank?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20578684

"Daniel Taub, ambassador to London, was summoned to talks with Foreign Office minister Alistair Burt.

This followed Israel authorising 3,000 more housing units the day after the United Nations voted to upgrade Palestinian status."

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed international criticism of Israel's settlement plans, saying: "We will carry on building in Jerusalem and in all the places that are on the map of Israel's strategic interests."

You do have to say that Netanyahu doesn't exactly come across as giving a fig for the ceasefire or the peace process as a whole there does he

“We will carry on building in Jerusalem and in all the places that are on the map of Israel’s strategic interests.”

When you waft the flies away from the turd....

“We will carry on building in... ...all the places that are... ...of... ...strategic interests.”

www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57556949/u....ogram-to-inspection/

UNITED NATIONS The U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution Monday calling on Israel to quickly open its nuclear program for inspection and backing a high-level conference to ban nuclear weapons from the Middle East that was just canceled.

All Arab nations and Iran had planned to attend the conference in mid-December in Helsinki, Finland, but the United States announced on Nov. 23 that it wouldn't take place, citing political turmoil in the region and Iran's defiant stance on nonproliferation. Iran and some Arab nations countered that the real reason for the cancellation was Israel's refusal to attend.

Israel refuses to confirm or deny it has nuclear bombs, though it is widely believed to have a nuclear arsenal. It has refused to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, or NPT, along with three nuclear weapon states — India, Pakistan and North Korea.
