Ok, as we have a thread about peoples favourite painters/artists, we need one for favoutite musicians. So peeps, post something about musicians who've touched your soul with their music! I'll start.

Here's Dave Lombardo for you, I didn't dig much Slayer when I was kid, it's quite new love for me, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Lombardo may not be the most technical of drummers, but he's spot on when it comes to playing fast and aggressive heavy metal. He's got some blocky metal groove in him, I like it, his drumming is like a diamond with rough edges. :band:

A man who's influence on music, throughout the last 40 yrs, has gone fairly unnoticed.

This guy was no passenger, but a driving force, and is only just being recognised as such.

Ronnie Wood. My favourite band of all time "The Faces" was Ron's band, Also, in my humble opinion, he changed the Rolling Stones from a blues band, into a rock band. Ronnie rocks!!

Forget yesterday. It has already forgotten you.

You're not wrong. I've seen him with both the Faces and the Stones and he is effortlessly amazing across a wide range of styles.
He also happens to be a collected artist so could end up in both threads. :)

Threads like this cause me massive head trauma because I have so many candidates depending on my mood.

Ray Charles - the dude took strummy country and westerns songs and turned them into funky assed floor-fillers.
Yeah, think about that statement again!

David Bowie - How can you summerise him?
Which 'him'? Ziggy, Aladinsane, Duke ........ want to talk about shape-shifters?

Jimmy Page - The man who spawned a 1,000 sub-genres.

Les Paul - A fantastic guitar player but he stuck a ribbon mic on a chunk of timber, attached a neck and changed the game forever.

James Marshall Hendrix - I'm not even gonna try .........

John Entwhistle The Ox - Bass players are still scratching their heads trying to figure "wait .....what did he just do there?"

to be continued .......

Gotcha feather, it's like being asked "what was your bestest ever gig?"

I've been to hundreds of gigs, and they were all the best gig I've ever been to..

Sometimes, the band down the pub were as good a craich as seeing Pink Floyd in Paris.

I've been to hundreds of gigs, and they were all the best. I hope that makes sense.
Of course it doesn't, do it again! :chuckle:

It will come as no surprise to most around here that mine is Jack White. A relatively newcomer but the man has his fingers in many pies on and off the scene and I expect he will continue to do so for a long time to come

Listening to The Faces atm. Very nice, vocalist has some power in his voice! Very good feel I have to say, this music would fit very well in a pub.. Hehe, in my town there used to be bar called Woodoo, they used to have free live music at sundays at a time, this type bands were quite usual to have there, blues/rock mainly... :D

Ok, next band is from Norway, I present to you, EMPEROR!

Very influental band in black metal scene. One of those bands who defined the sound of symphonic black metal. Their sound is quite innovative and original, melodic, yet aggressive. This is type of music one must "learn" to listen, not very easily opening stuff. For me, Emperor represents the perfect black metal band. Trym is one of my favourite drummers btw, he has had a huge influence on my drumming.

Woah Hex my man, that's way too heavy for these old ears. I have friends who would love it though, so I'll pass on the word about Emperor to them.

That vocalist in the Faces went on to have a fairly successful solo-career, you may have heard of him Rod Stewart!!

It's bit like opera, or some classical, needs learning to be able to listen it. ;) When I was teenager, I used to listen thrash metal a lot, getting into black metal took few years actually... I first time heard this kind of stuff at, '92 I think.. All I heard was wall of noise, it was too fast, too heavy and too distorted. Funnily enough, after some forced listening it started to open up. And what I found was huge epic landscapes, dark depths of human mind, all enveloping atmosphere... It's amazing music, but needs a lot of listening to get into.

Hmm, it's little bit like uptempo jazz, that ain't easy listening either. :D

Feather, dunno if you know Barcelona well or not. But, behind the cathedral is a beautiful walled garden, with many plants and lots of water, it's amazing. It is so cool in there, after the oppressive heat outside, and there has been this brilliant spanish-guitarist there for years. Just a guy busking, but seriously fuckin' WOW!! I strongly recommend this experience to everyone here.

Neil Young - I love Neil because he's so honest. He's never pandered to the machine or even his audience.
He does what he feels driven to do and offers no apologies.

Thanks for your input guys! :D Feather, it's perfectly ok to post as many videos/songs from artist/band you like, that's what this thread is for! Heck, I'm trying to hold myself of flooding this thread with excellent heavy metal... I want to give you guys a voice on this! I'm more than happy to broaden my horizons with music. It sometimes gives good ideas.

Keep it up! :spliff:
