RIP Jon,

When I first started listening to music it was Beethoven's 9th and the Can Can from the old man's record collection. I guess the old fella thought I should come up to speed and bought me DP's Made in Japan and PF Animals, from then on I never looked back :chuckle:

Jon Lord and Richie Blackmore's duet's were awesome , something no one had ever done before.

It has to be said that Blackmore was one of the moodiest bastards ever to throw a guitar strap over his shoulder though.
I saw DP in all it's permutations and Rainbow a couple of times.
When Blackmore was into it he was stunning, when he was throwing a strop, he just stood there pouting and 'played the notes'.

Whitesnake were better.
Rainbow were really two bands.
One fronted by Ronnie James Dio playing rock and the other fronted by Graham Bonnet or Joe Lynn Turner playing pop aimed at the American market.

Agreed Whitesnake were far better.

The start of "knocking at your back door" is my favorite Jon Lord.... R.I.P

I was 5 years old when this album came out... :band:

My Dad was the first person in The U.S.A to have Perfect Strangers the album on compact disc... :spliff:

That's just what Real Americans do... :jakd:

Lord's re-emergence with Deep Purple in 1984 resulted in huge audiences for the reformed Mk II line-up, including 1985s second largest grossing tour in the US and an appearance in front of 70,000 rain-soaked fans headlining Knebworth on 22 June 1985, all to support the Perfect Strangers album. Playing with a rejuvenated Mk. II Purple line-up (including spells at a health farm to get the band including Lord into shape) and being onstage and in the studio with Blackmore, gave Lord the chance to push himself once again. His 'rubato' classical opening sequence to the album's opener, "Knocking at Your Back Door" (complete with F-Minor to G polychordal harmony sequence), gave Lord the chance to do his most powerful work for years, including the song "Perfect Strangers". Further Deep Purple albums followed, often of varying quality, and by the late-1990s, Lord was clearly keen to explore new avenues for his musical career.

I had to share this joke with you somewhere and somehow this seems the most appropriate thread :emb:

70's rock band Journey are gonna be pissed off with me, this morning, albeit fleetingly, I stopped believing.

Whitesnake were better.

That might be true, but that was like the worst song by Rainbow.
