Transhumanists literally see this as some kind of evolutionary event.

Transhumanism is not catching on as much as it would appear that someone wants you to believe it is. They would like to see it be part of the collective consciusness, but it's not going to be something people take on voluntarily in any major way. "Hey kids, your first step is just having this liiiittle microchip inserted right here..." Someone needs absolute control, and needs to know what we are doing before we even do it. That's all "transhumanism" agendas say to me.

The agenda as I see it, is another hierarchy.
A core of people that have nicked enough wealth to have all the upgrades going for them and their bloodline. No doubt SOME are already treading that path. As andy said, these people literally do see it as an evolution. A blending of human with tech.
Beneath them, various sub levels going tight down to us proles who will still be human but chipped and linked in to the net. With every aspect of our lives working through that net.

Bionic eyes sound interesting. Be great if you could have a zoom magnification. (total pest) I'd settle for that for now.

There was a report about bionic eyes a few weeks back. They've now got to the stage where they ARE managing to restore sight with retina implants. This could be the GOOD side of this kind of tech. It's the other side that I feel is pushing the research though.
